MEDIA RELEASE
LOOMING WORKERS’ STRIKE AT KENSAI PLASCON BOTSWANA ON MONDAY 29, NOVEMBER 2021
The Union is inundated with enquiries from Community Leaders and the General Public on the looming workers strike.
The Union wishes to inform the general public and stakeholders that indeed there is gravitation towards workers’ strike at KENSAI PLASCON BOTSWANA at its branches in Gaborone and Francistown starting 0730hrs on Monday 29, November 2021. The workers are agitated to the extent of willing to engage in a wild-cat strike.
The workers unwavering conviction to engage in industrial action stems from the following:
1. Management's failure to observe Collective Labour Agreement (CLA) during the ongoing Retrenchment Negotiations.
2. Continuous harassment of Union Members by members of Management.
3. Lackadaisical approach when dealing with Employees conditions of service to the extent that Management has fragrantly ignored claims such as overtime, gainshare bonus (2020) and April 2020 Covid 19 Government Subsidy.
4. Current KENSAI PLASCON BOTSWANA Management continuous disregard of the Conditions of Service.
Be further informed that the Union as law abiding institution has reported the matter on Retrenchment to the Commissioner of Labour.
The Union has in order to avert undesired consequences organized an emergency meeting with its members on Monday 29, November 2021 at 0800hrs and thereafter meet Management at 1100hrs.
The General Public is alerted that should there be no mutual settlement of the afore mentioned matters the Union will have no opinion but to engage in Industrial Action.
The Union is also engaged with its National, Regional and International partners, should the need arise, to mount a campaign against the company and its products.
