Your child’s assessment journey can still bring many questions, especially after receiving recommendations and results.
* What support will my child need?
* Will support only happen at the clinic?
* What happens after the feedback session?
This week, we continue walking this journey with you step by step, so you feel informed, supported and reassured moving forward.
Let’s continue.
Step 8: Ongoing Support
After the assessment and feedback session, support recommendations are made based on your child’s individual needs.
These recommendations may include:
- Therapy referrals
- Counselling support
- School accommodations
- Exam concessions
- Specialist referrals
- Follow-up support services
Every child’s journey is different. Some children may need short-term support, while others may benefit from ongoing intervention and monitoring over time. The purpose of these recommendations is to ensure that your child receives the appropriate support both academically and emotionally.
At Legato, we believe that assessment is not just about identifying challenges. It is about helping children access the support they need to thrive.
And the journey does not end here.

Continuing your child’s assessment journey can still feel emotional and uncertain, especially once the assessment has been completed.
What do the results mean?
Will everything be explained clearly?
What happens after receiving the report?
This week, we are continuing to walk this journey with you step by step, so you feel informed, supported and reassured throughout the process.
Let’s continue.
Step 7: Feedback Session
Once the assessment and written report are complete, a dedicated feedback session is scheduled with parents or caregivers.
During this session:
- Results are explained in clear and practical language
- Parents are given the opportunity to ask questions
- Guidance is provided on how to support the child at home and at school
- Recommendations and next steps are discussed together
This session is an important part of the journey because it helps families fully understand their child’s strengths, challenges and support needs moving forward. Assessments should not leave parents feeling overwhelmed or confused. Our goal is to ensure that you leave feeling informed, supported and empowered.
And the journey does not end here.

Completing your child’s assessment journey can still feel uncertain, especially as you begin moving beyond the assessment itself.
- What happens after the results?
- What support will my child need?
- Will the journey end after the report?
This week, we are continuing to walk this journey with you step by step, so you feel informed, supported and reassured every step of the way.
Let’s continue.
-Step 7: Feedback Session
Once the assessment and report are complete, a dedicated feedback session is scheduled with parents. During this session, results are explained in clear and practical language, guidance is provided on how to support your child, and next steps are discussed together.
-Step 8: Ongoing Support
Support does not end after the assessment. Depending on your child’s needs, recommendations may include therapy referrals, counselling, school accommodations, exam concessions, follow-up assessments or additional specialist support.
-Step 9: Ongoing Review
As children grow, their needs can change. Continued review allows support plans and recommendations to evolve over time to ensure your child continues receiving the appropriate support both at school and at home.
Each of these steps is designed to ensure that families are not left navigating the journey alone after assessment.
And the journey does not end here.
If you’ve been following along, you’re already taking an important step toward understanding and supporting your child.

As we continue your child’s assessment journey, we now move into the stage that brings together all the information gathered throughout the process.
Step 6: Written Report
Following the assessment session, a detailed report is carefully compiled by the psychologist. This process takes time because the information gathered during the assessment, parent interview, teacher feedback and observations must all be reviewed thoroughly.
The written report may include:
- Assessment findings
- A diagnosis if applicable
- Recommendations for school support
- Recommendations for support at home
- Referrals to other specialists if needed
This report is designed to provide a clearer understanding of your child’s strengths, challenges and support needs. It also serves as a guide for parents, caregivers, teachers and other professionals involved in supporting your child’s development and learning journey.
Reports are usually completed approximately 3 weeks after the assessment once all forms and information have been received. Every child is different, which is why each report is individualized and carefully prepared.
In the next step, we will walk you through the feedback session and how results are discussed with parents in a supportive and practical way.

we now move into one of the most important parts of the process, the parent interview.
Many parents are surprised by how detailed this conversation can be, but every discussion helps us better understand your child’s development, learning and experiences.
Step 5: Parent Interview
Parents are encouraged to come in before the assessment session begins in order to complete consent forms and discuss important background information with the psychologist.
This conversation plays an important role in helping us prepare for the assessment session and better understand your child’s individual needs.
During the interview, we discuss areas such as developmental, medical and academic history, pregnancy and birth history, developmental milestones, family background and your observations as a parent.
We also explore any significant events that may have affected your child’s emotional wellbeing, behaviour or learning experiences.
Your involvement is an important part of the process.
Children experience different environments at school, at home and socially. Parent input helps us build a fuller and more accurate understanding of your child’s strengths, challenges and support needs.
This is not about judgement or blame.
It is about working together to better understand your child and identify the support that may help them thrive.
In the next step, we will walk you through the written report and what families can expect after the assessment process is complete.

As we continue your child’s assessment journey, preparation becomes an important part of the process.
Assessment day can take several hours, and in some cases, most of the day. Coming prepared helps the session run more smoothly and ensures that your child is as comfortable as possible throughout the assessment.
Step 4: What to Bring
Before coming to the clinic, please make sure you bring:
- Your referral letter
- Medical aid details
- Snacks and lunch for your child
- Glasses or hearing aids if needed
- Any medication your child may require during the day
Assessments usually begin from 9am and can take between 3 to 6 hours depending on your child’s needs and pace.
We also kindly ask parents and caregivers to arrive at least 10 minutes early before the session begins.
These may seem like small preparations, but they play an important role in helping your child feel settled, supported and ready for the day ahead.
In the next step, we will walk you through the parent interview and why parent involvement is such an important part of the assessment process.

Continuing your child’s assessment journey, we now move into the assessment session itself.
This is often the part that parents feel most unsure about.
What will my child be asked to do?
Will it feel overwhelming?
What exactly is being assessed?
Let’s walk through it together.
Step 4: Assessment Session
During the assessment, your child will take part in a range of structured activities designed to better understand how they learn, think and process information.
These may include problem solving tasks, reading and writing activities, memory exercises and attention-based tasks. There are also elements that look at social and emotional wellbeing.
The session is not a test that your child passes or fails. It is a way for us to understand your child’s strengths, challenges and overall development in a supportive and structured environment. Each activity is carefully selected to build a clearer picture, so that the support provided afterwards is accurate and meaningful. You can expect the session to take 3 to 6 hours
In the next step, we will guide you on how to prepare for assessment day and what to bring to ensure everything runs smoothly.
If you’ve been following along, you are now approaching one of the most important parts of the journey.
