“One month into my journey at New Era College, I’m beginning to realise that choosing to study Mechanical Engineering was not just a decision about a qualification it was a decision about the future I want to build.”

"Starting college came with a mixture of excitement, anticipation, and curiosity about what the journey ahead would look like. Now, one month into my Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, I can confidently say that my experience at New Era College has already been transformative.

From my first day on campus, I was welcomed into an environment that made it easy to settle in, connect with others, and feel like I belonged. What has impressed me most so far is the relationship between students and lecturers. The lecturers don't just teach and move on they take the time to engage with us, answer our questions, encourage us, and go the extra mile to make sure we understand what we are learning.

My first month has also been a journey of personal growth. I am learning to become more independent, take responsibility for my studies, manage new challenges, and push myself beyond what I thought I could do.

Studying Mechanical Engineering is helping me see that engineering is not simply about machines and technical concepts. It is about understanding how things work, solving problems, thinking creatively, and developing the skills to create practical solutions that can make a difference.

For me, the represents growth, independence, opportunity, and purpose. Every new lesson and challenge is helping me build a stronger foundation for the career I hope to have.

I may only be one month into my journey, but I am excited about what lies ahead. I am proud to be part of the New Era College community, and I look forward to growing, learning, and making the most of every opportunity along the way.

This is only the beginning of my engineering journey, and I can't wait to see where it takes me."

✨Student Spotlight:Otsile Modisapodi✨

“The classroom gives you knowledge, but experience teaches you how to apply it.”

"My IBL placement at Francistown City Council was more than just a requirement for completing my studies. It was a defining part of my an opportunity to take the knowledge, skills, values and confidence I developed at New Era College and apply them in a real world professional environment.

My journey at New Era College prepared me for more than academics. Through classroom learning, interactions with lecturers and fellow students, teamwork, presentations, practical activities and exposure to real world challenges, I began developing the mindset and skills needed beyond graduation.

IBL became the bridge between my and my professional journey.

Stepping into Francistown City Council allowed me to experience what it truly means to work with colleagues, engage with clients, communicate professionally, take responsibility and adapt to the expectations of the workplace. The transition was smooth because open communication was always my top priority whether with my colleagues, my supervisor or the clients I worked with.

I am deeply grateful to the Francistown City Council, my supervisor and my colleagues for creating such a conducive environment where I could learn, contribute and grow.

If there was one challenge, it was that the six months went by far too quickly. I would recommend extending IBL to 12 months, because practical exposure is crucial in helping students build confidence, develop workplace competence and understand what it truly takes to become industry ready.

To current New Era College students, take your IBL seriously. Your does not end in the classroom it continues when you step into the workplace. Use IBL to ask questions, build relationships, learn from professionals, make mistakes, gain confidence and discover the professional you are becoming.

Because ultimately, is not just about where you study. It is about how your experiences prepare you for where you are going."

New Era College, IT-IQ Botswana, and CompTIA Partner to Empower Students and Staff for the Evolving Digital Economy

New Era College of Arts, Science & Technology played host to an impactful Career Development Seminar conducted by CompTIA Africa in partnership with IT-IQ Botswana, designed to prepare the next generation of tech leaders for the rapidly changing global job market.

Centering on the theme "Future Skills, Future Jobs, Future You", the seminar explored critical developments driving the modern workforce such as artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, cloud computing, data analytics and automation.

The presentations were delivered by distinguished industry expert Mr Rendo Rust, a Senior Account Executive for Sub-Saharan Africa, CompTIA Africa as well as Ms Mariam Sethi who is the Operations Director at IT-IQ Botswana.

In his presentation, Mr. Rust highlighted how CompTIA certifications are trusted and recognized globally and provide performance-based validation that makes certified professionals twice as likely to be promoted.

He outlined the five forces currently shaping the world of work: AI, cybersecurity, cloud, data, and automation, while emphasizing key in-demand tech roles across Sub-Saharan Africa, including software development, data analysis, and IT infrastructure. Crucially, his presentation reinforced a pivotal trend in building the future workforce: prioritizing practical skills alongside academic degrees, where industry certifications serve as the ultimate validation of technical competence.

The session complemented New Era College’s specialized programs, such as the Bachelor of Science in Cyber Security and Risk Management, by reinforcing how academic learning aligns directly with real-world industry requirements.

By continuously hosting collaborative seminars and masterclasses with accredited international partners, New Era College remains dedicated to developing skilled, future-ready graduates equipped to protect, innovate, and lead within Botswana's growing digital ecosystem.
