The Department of Tertiary Education Financing (DTEF) held a staff welfare meeting on 18 August 2026 under the theme βTransforming Ourselves, Transforming DTEFβ to discuss issues affecting staff members and explore ways of strengthening staff welfare and organisational effectiveness. In her welcome remarks, Chief Education Officer, Ms. Tshwaragano Motlogelwa, encouraged staff members to openly voice their concerns to enable Management to address issues affecting them.
Addressing staff, Acting Director, Ms. Ellen Kgotlhang, applauded employees for the commitment, resilience and sacrifice demonstrated during the recently concluded 2026/27 Call for Applications for New Student Sponsorship. Ms. Kgotlhang emphasised that transformation does not begin with a new system, structure or policy, but with the individual. She noted that transformation requires attention to the small things that may sometimes appear insignificant, but which collectively shape the culture of an organisation.
The Acting Director urged staff members to be agile, innovative, accountable, united, professional and customer-focused, while emphasising the importance of teamwork in transforming DTEF. βBehind every sponsorship application is a young person hoping for education; behind that young person is a family placing its trust in Government,β she said.
As part of the motivational session, Chief Principal Officer I, Ms. Mmabontle Lebotse, encouraged staff to focus on matters within their control, turn frustrations into action and practise self-compassion. She further emphasised the importance of teamwork in enabling staff to collectively deliver on the Departmentβs mandate.
In closing, Chief Placement Officer, Mr. Keoletile Mmopi, expressed appreciation to DTEF Management for providing staff members with an opportunity to openly discuss their concerns. He encouraged Human Resources to continue prioritising staff welfare and ensuring that employeesβ concerns receive due consideration.
The meeting reaffirmed DTEFβs commitment to fostering a supportive, accountable and collaborative working environment, while encouraging employees to recognise their individual role in driving positive transformation within the Department.
