"LET'S EMPOWER OUR KIDS WITH SMART SHOPPING SKILLS! πŸ›’βœ¨

Many of us skip the shopping list and forget to double-check items, but there's a fantastic way to teach our young ones the art of smart spending from an early age.

By making shopping lists a fun habit, we also avoid shop tantrums (and this can be embarrassing for parents in the shops).

Lists also help our kids develop essential traits like discipline and self-control.

It's a great start for younger kids, to get them to plan for their own 'mopako' (grocery for lunch box), fostering a sense of ownership and responsibility. Even if its a top up for mopako (like on the picture) or whether its on a weekly basis or half way through the month. Involve them as regularly as you can so that it becomes a habit.

The trick? Allow them to add a treat or two like their beloved biscuit, sweets, or chocolate to keep the adventure lively (It doesnt have to be a lot or pricey). Just a friendly reminder, though: if you miss the treat on the list, be prepared for some 'why's' and 'how comes!', and lot's of winning as you go back home.πŸ€·β€β™€οΈπŸ§ Remember these are kids.

Beyond financial literacy at an early age, this exercise helps your kids to read and write. Allow them to make mistakes. Then correct them. It's a chance for growth. Teach them that making mistakes is okay, it shows you are trying and learning.

For the older kids (upper primary and secondary), take it up a notch. Let them estimate prices, add sums, and stay within their budget. Involve them in creating a shopping list for the family grocery.

It's an exciting journey of learning and empowerment.

Let's raise a generation of smart, savvy shoppers!

Let's try it this weekend! πŸ’ƒπŸ’ƒπŸ’ƒ

Have fun!

🚫 Let's stop bribing our kids with money to do their personal responsibilities 🚫

It might be tempting to offer your kids money as an incentive to complete basic household chores, but this can be a recipe for disaster in the long run, breeding entitlement mentality where your child expects payment for everything they do.

It's time we instill some sense of responsibility and independence in our little ones.

Here are some of the basic chores that a primary school going kid can do with no financial reward:

1. Make their bed
2. Tidy up their room
3. Setting up the table and cleaning it after
4. Washing the dishes
5. Watering plants
6. Keeping their stuff/belongings organised
7. Folding their laundry

You can add to the list, it's not exhaustive. 😊

Please, let's also avoid relying solely on our helpers to do everything for our kids. πŸ™
