Supporters came out in large numbers this morning as former Transport and Infrastructure Minister Noah Salakae and his co-accused appeared before the Broadhurst Magistrates Court.

The courtroom was packed to capacity, with an overflow of people outside the courtroom. Many of those who attended were from Salakaeโ€™s constituency, turning the court appearance into a significant public spectacle.

Inside court, the State asked for plea to be reserved, saying it intends to amend the charge sheet to include another accused person.

The State also did not oppose bail, proposing P10,000 bail and two Batswana sureties for each accused.

For Seby, a foreign national, the State proposed P30,000 bail, surrender of his passport and monthly reporting to the DCEC office in Ghanzi.

The matter has been postponed to 9 October 2026 for mention.

Former Transport and Infrastructure Minister Noah Salakae is set to face court tomorrow, as the corruption case that triggered his recent Cabinet resignation moves into the courtroom.

Salakae is among seven accused persons facing charges arising from the alleged award of a P1.535 billion government contract for the Ghanzi-New Xade road project to Tau Grading and Building Construction (Pty) Ltd.

The charge sheet alleges that Salakae, while serving as Minister, corruptly used his position to influence the signing of the contract and received P1.6 million, a Toyota Fortuner valued at P575,000 and bush-clearing services as alleged rewards.

Salakae has rejected the allegations and maintains that he is not guilty. Following his resignation from Cabinet last week, he returned to his home village, where he addressed a kgotla meeting and told residents that he had remained quiet for long enough and was now ready to clear his name before the courts.

The former minister has also stressed that his resignation was not an admission of guilt.

With the matter now before the courts, tomorrow marks the next major chapter in a case that has already sent ripples through Botswanaโ€™s political landscape.
