Our President, Thandeka, has been invited to serve as keynote speaker at the Malawi Architects Conference, a three-day event taking place in Blantyre. This is an honour we celebrate wholeheartedly, a meaningful recognition of the strong bonds between the architectural communities of Botswana and Malawi, and their shared resolve to champion and advance the profession during these demanding economic times.

The signing of the Memorandum of Understanding between the Architects Association of Botswana and the
Botswana Green Building Council and the marks a shared commitment towards advancing sustainable architecture, climate-responsive design, and green building practices in Botswana.

Together, we want to ensure that energy efficiency becomes fully integrated into Botswana’s National Building Code, creating buildings that are not only efficient and resilient, but also healthier, future-ready, and aligned with national sustainability ambitions. By strengthening collaboration between industry stakeholders, policymakers, and built environment professionals, we aim to support the development of standards and practices that promote long-term environmental performance, occupant wellbeing, and resource efficiency across Botswana’s building sector.

Through collaboration, professional capacity building, and industry leadership, we can help shape a built environment that works better for both people and the planet.

The Architects Association of Botswana mourns the passing of His Excellency Festus Gontebanye Mogae, a leader who built not with brick and mortar, but with integrity, discipline, and quiet determination.

As people of the built environment, we know that the truest measure of any structure is whether it stands long after the builder is gone. By that measure, President Mogae built exceptionally well. He gave Botswana stable institutions, sound governance, and the courage to face its hardest challenges honestly. And when his time in office ended, he did not rest, he kept serving, kept advocating, because for him, public service was never just a position. It was a calling.

We extend our heartfelt condolences to Mma Nametso ~ Mme Barbara Mogae, their daughters, and the entire family. Botswana has lost a great man, and we grieve alongside you.
