A word of advice from our maths tutor, Mr Tebo Koorapetse, a Bachelor of Medicine bachelor of Surgery here in the University of Botswana. This advice applies to every individual who is in tertiary level.
When i started my BSc first semester i did things haphazardly because i was still confused about what i wanted to pursue. I had to sit down and take my time to find out what i really want because i needed something that could drive me to be serious about my performance and doing things for the sake of me having the capability to pass was not driving me enough. I knew that having a specific path i wanted to take that will influence my drive.
It took me time to get to the bottom of what i wanted but once i got it things started following through and facing the direction i desired. What i am really saying is, as a bsc student i needed a specific target and that was getting myself into medicine🩺... From just this decision i kept measuring myself in terms of my study techniques and strategies to see if i am really doing enough to get what i want. Little things mattered even just a lab mark would make me wonder if i am doing enough. Its all about taking small things into consideration even if they look small but they always contribute.
The journey was quite nice and challenging at the same time. In the nice part i normalised appreciating the little achievements i made and in the challenging part i normalised and kept the believe that what i am going through does not define who i am, even if i failed one lab or 2 or 3 or failed one test, i wont let it limit me to say i cant make it but i used a different pesperctive that the marks are just telling me that i am not doing something right and until i figure it out i wont get better.
The mindset, a specific target and the believe system i had is what motivated me and pushed to me through. It made me aware of myself and helped me be organised in my studies. Just this secret made my first semester and second semester interesting.
It was not an easy road but with the right mindset, target and believe system it transformed into an easy one. With just the few heads up outlined above i managed to get a GPA of 4.8 the first semester and 4.7 the second semester.
