“In the sweat of thy face shalt thou eat bread…” As it was back then so it is to this very day. There certainly has been some variations as to how we go about to putting that bread on the table but the principle is the same. We all need to do some sort of work before we can find compensation and reward.

The more skilled you are the greater the reward will be. That’s the main goal of going to Tertiary Level or any school for that matter. We are supposed to emerge being trained in some art or discipline that is of significant value to our employers, clients or community such that they would be willing to throw us a bone, fair pay for work done (either for goods sold or services rendered).

That is why there is a large spectrum on the compensation scale, from minimum wage to ridiculous salaries or as it is in the business world, profits that are just out of this world. This video simply explains that we are supposed to give it our best to acquire VALUABLE SKILLS that can be used as tools for executing a clear objective which is satisfying human needs and wants. By doing this well enough the one to whom the need/want is satisfied will pay accordingly and as such helping the deliverer to earn a living.

The only question really is how SKILLED are you. We should strive to be brilliant and exceptional in our areas of expertise. We are living in a competitive world today where simply holding a degree/diploma isn’t enough anymore. Amongst those in your line of work how do you standout. That is why there are such things as scarce skills. If you are in this category in thy discipline then you are somewhat safe in terms of the society’s need for you because there aren’t a whole lot of people offering whatever trade you have.

If however you fall in the category of the masses possessing skills or qualifications that are easily attainable by the common man then the challenge for you is, how will you rise up from the crowd? Why would I need to buy goods/services from you? Is there anything different in how you package and present your offerings enough to leave me with the impression that you are without a doubt the best fit for want I need/want? Answer these questions well and you can rest assured that you will succeed in business or at the very least make an impact to will go a long way.

Let us aim to BE SKILLED and deliver our products and services with such excellence to propel our nation to prosperity. We no matter the work we do if we would all go the extra mile and invest some time in figuring out how to perfect our craft then our community, our nation and the world would be better for it. It is how we can uphold our values and principles of Development and Self-Reliance. More importantly it is how we as a nation can move forward to accomplishing BOTWSANA’s VISION 2036 in “Becoming a High-Income Country and Achieving Prosperity for All”.

Let's admit the cold hard truth, College ain't cheap!" Students in BW have an amazing privilege of having their fees being paid by the government through the Department of Tertiary Education Financing, DTEF. I call it a privilege because of how costly it is to put oneself through college/university. To put it in simple terms let us do a simple calculation to highlight the usual price of an average student doing a 4 year degree programme.

P1000 * 16 Credits * 2 Semesters * 4 Years = P128 000 For Credits Alone

This Amount Excludes: Monthly Allowance (Over P48 000 in 4 Years) + Rental Fees + Transit Fees + Study Books (Over P12 000 in 4 Years). All together one would be paying somewhere upwards of P188 000 (As a Local or Motswana and a bit higher for foreigners). So the real question really is this "Are you or your parents/guardians ready to foot the bill?"

Now that we have an appreciation of the costs associated with studying at tertiary level lets us consider how one can escape that pain in the wallet so as not to shoulder the burden alone or at all. Honestly it's a no-brainer, who'd wanna pay for something they can get for free. In Botswana the government offers aid in paying to go to tertiary level. This is one of our Nation's Greatest Strengths in Educating the young generation. There are two ways in which the government can intervene and provide assistance in the matter of Sponsorship to Study at Tertiary Institutions. These ways are Sponsorship as a LOAN and Sponsorship as a GRANT.

Currently the addressed method of sponsorship in the Acron mobile app and website is through the government via DTEF in later revisions and updates of the application we plan to place sponsorship for masters degrees and even just sponsorship abroad independent of the government as well as getting sponsorship because of one's performance in sports and other notable achievements not just the Points or Grade Score.

Albert Einstein once said, "Everybody is a Genius, but if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it will live its whole life believing that it is stupid.”

The quote above wonderfully captures or highlights the message that we should be careful not to quickly dismiss people and label them as failures in one area without first seeking their strengths in other aspects of their lives. We all have gifts and talents. It is quite unfortunate that sometimes these gifts cannot be reflected from our report cards which are the main measure of success in schools.

This simple doodle video addresses the matter on students who may lose heart just because the main assessment tool or measure of success in schools is often recorded and reflected from our grades and very little attention is given to their other abilities.

As much as this Acron Mobile App is for students pursuing higher learning we thought it prudent to make mention the fact that not all of us who go through senior/high school will end up going to tertiary level. It could very well be that despite all your studying and all your efforts to improve your grades, you just can't seem to get them up to the required level because the cold hard truth is that maybe, just maybe... it is not for you. Your area of excellence and brilliance lies elsewhere. Which then means your fruitless attempts at achieving academic excellence is just like that fish trying to climb a tree and getting frustrated at failing time and time again on what you were never met to do.

Now of course we are not saying that you should abandon learning at schools all together. When the opportunity is open to you learn as much as you can and reap the rewards that the Botswana Government affords you in getting FREE EDUCATION. It is indeed a rich privilege that some children in other parts of the world do not have. So take every advantage and use the chance and time there to the fullest.

If however you have given it your all in academics and your efforts bear very little fruit, know that it is not the end of the world. Find where your "Calling" lies. It is there that you will find fulfillment as it comes to you naturally and ever so effortlessly and you will still be able to earn an income to fend yourself and your loved ones. It may not always be easy but let your parents or guardians in on it and your teachers/coaches too. Then together figure out what possible best future you can have. There may be resistance but that's only because they care for you and wish you well and in today's economy the more educated often come out ahead financially and that all they want for you. However if they are as loving and caring as they ought to be, they will seriously and earnestly consider your strengths and limitations and hopefully device another course of action or path best suited to your personality and abilities.

We all have a gift, we all have that something which we are good. Find your Gift, find that Something you are good at.

This sad fictional narrative about Kabo is unfortunately the reality of many youngsters in Botswana who graduate from tertiary level and cannot find good employment or start businesses. Lets learn from it and navigate the terrain to avoid such tragic mishaps.
