Where I Thrive the most. 🥰
Living in a country and city where museums can be just about anything. You begin to see how storytelling and preservation take many forms and shapes. My visits keep shaping my thinking about Botswana’s 🇧🇼own museums, which have the potential to evolve beyond symbolic spaces, serving not just as repositories of heritage. And importantly, they can be sustainable. With the right strategies, our museums can generate income, and grow into self sustaining cultural enterprises. Without diluting their purpose.

A Simplified Roadmap 💯
As you move through each stage of the literature review, make sure you’re not losing sight of the central theme. Because literature reviews are built on past knowledge, there’s a tendency to drift away from the original focus. So at every step, pause and reflect: Are you still aligned with your core theme?

🔴 Here’s my honest reflection on the learning spaces I explored this year, opportunities I believe anyone (unemployed, a student, graduate, or employed) should consider exploring in 2026. I’m mainly sharing for unemployed youth, but honestly, it’s relevant to anyone who wants to keep learning without fulltime school. You can even treat these opportunities like a job or side hustle. Some are online, some in-person. Some are free, others may charge fees. Some require proposals or research papers, depending on what you’re aiming for.
This year, I applied to one conference, one youth forum, and a fellowship, all for the first time. (Thanks to a very good friend of mine 🥰) My advice: follow social media pages and websites in your areas of interest, universities, international organizations, NGOs, etc. And make the most of LinkedIn. It’s a goldmine if you use it well.
Hope this helps ⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️

I was so happy to try on a Hanbok, traditional Korean attire. It got me thinking how fun it would be to wear a Herero dress, or any traditional outfit from a clan in BOTSWANA 🇧🇼 and enjoy a day at the Museum. Something DNMM could consider incorporating into their visits.

Tourism, as my chosen field of study and future area of expertise, is a powerful multidisciplinary field with the capacity to significantly boost Botswana’s economic development. This sponsorship programme is both timely and forward thinking, recognizing tourism beyond “leisure”. Given Botswana’s current economic landscape, it’s crucial that we begin to think critically and creatively beyond diamonds. That’s why I strongly encourage you to apply, especially for Research Topic 2 😉.

This past weekend, SBA Dongbei University of Finance and Economics organized a tour that explored how intangible culture and heritage can be preserved through pastry. It was a sweet reminder (literally and figuratively) that culture isn’t just something we celebrate, it’s something we live every day. It’s in the food we share, the stories we tell, and the little traditions that shape how we connect with the world around us.
I learnt about a tradition called Zhuāzhōu (抓周). It’s a first birthday ritual in Chinese culture where various symbolic objects are placed in front of a baby, each representing a different career or life path. The baby is then encouraged to crawl toward and pick one, and the chosen item is believed to hint at their future interests or profession. Example of an item and meaning could be a Book → Scholar OR Syringe → Doctor. This tradition dates back to the Qing Dynasty and was originally practiced among noble families. While it’s mostly symbolic and playful today, many families still enjoy it as a fun way to celebrate a child’s first birthday and imagine their future. While toys were traditionally used for the ritual, more and more families today are putting a modern twist on it, using pastries instead. A fun and delicious way to celebrate, bringing everyone together to enjoy both the tradition and the treats.
The trip taught me how creative methods can be powerful tools for preserving identity and passing it on.Maybe for us, it’s time to reimagine how we share our heritage: not just keeping it in museums or archives, that way, culture becomes something Batswana don’t just remember, but something we live.
