Botswana Examinations Council (BEC) has released the 2024 Primary School Leaving Examinations (PSLE) results.
A total of 53,044 (Fifty Three Thousand and Forty Four) candidates wrote the 2024 examination showing an increase in candidature of 1.5% from the 2023 candidature of 52,266 (Fifty Two Thousand Two Hundred and Sixty Six). The 2024 cohort had 26,329 (49.64%) females and 26,710 (50.36%) males.
The female candidates outperformed their male counterparts in all subjects.
The 2024 PSLE overall performance indicates that the proportion of candidates obtaining pass grades (Grade E or better), remains almost the same at (99.80%) as that of the previous year (99.62%). This implies that almost all candidates who sat the PSLE qualified for the award of the minimum grade. There were only 39 candidates declared Ungraded denoted by letter U while 68 candidates were not able to reach requirements for the award of a grade, denoted by letter X.
The proportion of candidates obtaining credit grades (Grade C or better) has increased by 1.30% from 72.00% in 2023 to 73.20% this year.
The percentage of candidates obtaining Grade A in this examination has increased by 0.80%, from 20.30% in 2023 to 21.10% in 2024. The proportion of candidates obtaining Grade B or better has also improved with an increase of 2.20% from 38.10% in 2023 to 40.30% this year.
In summary, the 2024 PSLE results indicate an improvement in performance at the qualification level compared to the previous year. Symbols used in the Results:
U denotes that a candidate did not meet the minimum requirements for Grade E.
X denotes that a candidate did not meet the minimum requirements for grading due to various reasons and some of the cases will be resolved in due course.
