Model Answer
"The activity I love doing in my free time is hiking — basically, walking long distances in nature. I've been doing this for about four years now, and it's become something I really look forward to every week.
I usually go hiking early on Saturday mornings, around six o'clock, because the weather is cooler and the trails are less crowded. I live near a few national parks, so I have plenty of options. Sometimes I walk along coastal paths, sometimes through forests, and sometimes up mountains if I'm feeling energetic. During the rainy season, I switch to shorter walks in the city or go indoor rock climbing instead. But honestly, nothing beats a full day of hiking in the countryside.
Most of the time, I go with a small group of friends. We met through a local hiking club, and we've become quite close over the years. But I also enjoy going alone sometimes. When I'm by myself, it feels almost like meditation — just me, my thoughts, and the sound of my footsteps. When I'm with friends, we chat as we walk, but we also don't mind being quiet for long stretches. There's no pressure to talk all the time.
The main reason I enjoy hiking so much is that it gives me two things at once: a good physical workout and a clear, relaxed mind. On the physical side, climbing a steep hill takes effort and determination, especially when the weather changes suddenly. But on the mental side, being surrounded by trees and hearing birds singing is incredibly calming. It makes my everyday worries feel small and unimportant. I've also noticed that I get my best ideas while walking — it's as if moving my body helps my brain work better. So for me, hiking isn't just a hobby. It's something that keeps me healthy, happy, and mentally sharp."
