🌱 A Collaborative Circle That Keeps Growing: RTC & PCE 🌱

What a gift it was to host 25 faculty and staff from Royal Thimphu College and Paro College of Education at ELC on Thursday, 20th August for a day of learning and connection on Restorative Justice (RJ) ❤️‍🩹

Together, we opened up a space in which each person could speak to the wisdom of restoration in resolving a conflict. Our students met the moment with great courage and generosity, drawing on their own lived experience with restorative practice to guide the conversation.

We also shared our RJ practice at ELC through a presentation, followed by Q&A and engaged dialogue that took us even deeper. Honest questions, thoughtful reflection, and a whole lot of heart in the room.

Days like this are part of a collaboration that keeps deepening with every visit, and the learning goes both ways 🤝. Each time we gather, the ripples spread a little further too!

We're grateful to keep walking this path together, and for the shared belief that RJ is a pathway that helps bring Gross National Happiness and the Four Immeasurables (Tseme Zhi) to life in our educational institutions ✨

Some stories come full circle in ways that move you and leave you feeling deeply grateful.

In 2016, when we opened the doors to our newly established high school, a young man walked into the Principal’s Office seeking admission. He had been out of school for nine years and had come to give himself a second chance at the school on top of the hill.

It was not always easy for him. But he gave himself wholeheartedly to everything beyond the classroom - music, art, school events, and especially to making the school a place of joy. As the school’s first newly elected Student Body President, he once orchestrated a Teachers’ Day celebration almost single-handedly, staying back late into the night - that honoured each of us with great love!

He fell in love with the school. And we with him.

Though he didn’t quite make it through high school, he left with something far more enduring than a certificate: a belief in his talents, his passion for music and above all, a belief in himself!

Over the years, he kept in touch with the school - building furniture for us, volunteering at school events, working hard, and never giving up on his passion for music. From Indian Idol and The Voice of Bhutan to most recently the Eurovision Contest, where his own composition placed fourth, he kept finding and trusting his voice.

And today, a whole decade later, he stood on the same stage where he had once sung and danced as a student and performed Phayuel at our school concert.

Then came the moment that touched us most.

He presented ELC with Nu 10,000 from his prize money towards our Citizenship Programme - a cause he has long wished to support.

He could have kept it for himself and his family. Instead, he chose to give back.

Perhaps that is the most beautiful measure of education: not what you achieve for yourself, but what you choose to give to others.

Karma Drupchu, you came looking for a second chance and, in your own beautiful way, have become a gift that keeps on giving. ELC is truly humbled to call ourselves your Alma Mater.

🌿 Scout Investiture Ceremony | 13th August 2026 🌿

Our Scout Investiture Ceremony was held on 13th August. Although the date had to be adjusted due to conflicting commitments, we made time to observe this important occasion because we believe in recognising and celebrating the journey of our young Scouts.

The ceremony marked a meaningful milestone as our Scouts formally embraced their responsibilities and the values of service, discipline, leadership and commitment.

Congratulations to all our newly invested Scouts! May you continue to grow with courage, compassion and a strong spirit of service. ⚜️💚

❤️ Bhutan Premiere of Loving Karma, with Our Sister School ❤️

This week, ELC School had the honor of hosting Gen-la Lobsang Phuntsok - our dear friend and the founder of our sister school Jhamtse Gatsal Children's Community, the "Garden of Love and Compassion" in neighboring Tawang, India - for the Bhutan premiere of "Loving Karma", the moving follow-up to the Emmy Award-winning documentary "Tashi and the Monk."

Two little schools, one shared border, the same light 🇧🇹🇮🇳✨ Our journey started with a visit to ELC from Jhamtse in 2024, and continued with an ELC visit to Jhamtse in 2025. Now in 2026, together with our community of students, educators, parents, supporters, partners and friends, we gathered for a week of connection and inspiration at ELC including a sister school assembly, special film screening and intimate conversation with Gen-la Lobsang - all touching on the power of love and compassion to truly transform a child's life 💞

Our deep gratitude to The Contentment Foundation for co-hosting and to Bhutan Echoes for also carrying this heartfelt conversation and film at Drukyul's Literature and Arts Festival this year 🙏

🎖️ Proud Moment for ELC School! 🎖️

We’re delighted to share that our Grade 9 student, Pema Dechen, was selected for a rigorous 3-week Scout Leadership Training Camp this past summer!

The program pushed her through everything from endurance runs, and field cooking to first aid, navigation, obstacle courses, and leadership drills — building discipline, resilience, and true grit along the way.

In taking on this challenge, Pema proudly represented not just herself, but her parents, her school, and her community.

We are so proud of you, Pema! 🌟 Congratulations on this incredible achievement! 👏

ELC School is incredibly proud of LHAWANG TASHI, our Grade 10 student, who represented both our school and Bhutan for the very first time at the UWC Short Course – Embodying Earth: Leadership for a Regenerative Future in Vietnam during the summer break.

Over nine inspiring days, he joined young changemakers from around the world in exploring regenerative leadership, sustainability, mindfulness, community living, and environmental stewardship through hands-on learning and cross-cultural collaboration.

What an incredible first international representation - and what a wonderful way to make us all proud, most of all, Lhawang himself. Congratulations on this remarkable achievement! 🌿🌏🇧🇹
