JUNIORS FINALS
Today Jigme (-66kg) and Nikhil (-60kg) had their matches in the Juniors (u21) category. Jigme faced an opponent from Tajikistan and Nikhil faced a Kazakh. Both nations have strong Judo programs.
Both opponents were very skilled in newaza and were able to defeat Jigme and Nikhil via submissions.
Jigme's attack was skillfully read and countered for a wazaari followed by a smooth transition into a juji-gatame (arm bar).
Nikhil lost his match when he was thrown for a wazaari followed by osaekomi.
While any loss is regretted, participating in high level tournaments is a challenging but necessary process of building technique, exposure and confidence. Nikhil and Jigme are both 18 participating in the u21 category.
The Tashkent Junior Asian Cup 2026 held in Uzbekistan, is an IJF Judo event. There were 76 judoka in the 66kg and 78 judoka in the 60kg categories. About 1,200 young athletes from more than 20 countries, including Russia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Iran, Mongolia, the UAE, Kazakhstan, Chinese Taipei, India, Sri Lanka, Tajikistan, the Kyrgyz Republic, and Saudi Arabia, competed in the tournament.
