THE DARIA BILODID PHENOMENON 🇺🇦🥋

At 14, she became a Cadet World Champion.

At 16, a Senior European Champion.

At 17 years and 345 days, the youngest World Champion in judo history.

At 18, she defended her title and became the youngest judoka ever to win back-to-back World Championships.

This was not normal progress. This was the rise of a phenomenon.

Standing 1.72 m tall, Daria Bilodid had a body type rarely seen in the −48 kg division. But height alone does not win world titles. She transformed her reach into a complete tactical system: dominant kumikata, excellent distance control, dangerous O-uchi-gari attacks and immediate transitions into sankaku-gatame.

Many opponents were already fighting Bilodid’s judo before they had the chance to begin their own.

Her greatest weapon, however, was her maturity. While still a teenager, she defeated Olympic champions, world champions and elite Japanese opposition under enormous pressure. She did not win through surprise just once — she returned the following year and proved her superiority again.

At the Tokyo Olympics, Bilodid won bronze — Ukraine’s first Olympic medal in women’s judo. She then accepted an entirely new challenge, moving from −48 kg to −57 kg. The opponents became stronger, her physical advantage became smaller, and she had to rebuild her judo.

Winning the 2024 European title at −57 kg proved that her greatness belonged to more than one weight category.

Bilodid also became one of the most recognizable athletes in modern judo. But fame did not create the champion. The champion created the fame.

That is the Daria Bilodid phenomenon: rare talent, unusual proportions, elite technique, extraordinary maturity and the courage to reinvent herself.

At her peak, was Daria Bilodid the most dominant −48 kg judoka of her generation?

The movie that fired up the imagination of millions around the world about martial arts. Unfortunately, as a grappling and throwing art, Judo hasn't benefited from any similar movie or story. Judo, particularly in Bhutan continues to rely on active promotion to grow the sport.

On this day, in 1973, this great man and Martial Artist left the world WAY too soon. "The little Dragon", my man Bruce Lee, he changed my life, the movie "Enter the Dragon" did that, I started training and 2 months later my biggest bully went down, completely out, one shot. Still, to me, considered my best fight and highlight in my life since it was the first time I stood up for myself. Another highlight of my life has been interviewing his daughter, Shannon Lee, and telling her that her father was the reason we were doing the interview. I mean, if I wouldn't have started fighting, I wouldn't have lived in America.
OSU little Dragon, Rest in Peace
