Are you applying for an Australian Student visa? You may be asked to provide biometrics.

It’s important to understand that if you apply for a Student visa outside of Australia and biometrics are required, you must provide them before travelling to Australia.

Biometrics can be provided at an Australian Biometric Collection Centre or, if eligible, by using the Australian Immi App.

If you do not complete your biometrics while overseas and enter Australia on another visa, you may be required to leave Australia again to provide them.

Not providing biometrics when requested can lead to your visa application being refused.

For tests taken on or after 7 August 2025

The department accepts test scores from the following tests that are undertaken at a secure test centre:

Cambridge C1 Advanced Test (C1 Advanced)

Canadian English Language Proficiency Index Program General (CELPIP General)

International English Language Testing System Academic (IELTS Academic), including One Skill Retake (OSR)

International English Language Testing System General Training (IELTS General Training), including One Skill Retake (OSR)

LANGUAGECERT Academic Test (LANGUAGECERT Academic)

Michigan English Test (MET), including Single Section Retake (SSR)

Occupational English Test (OET)

Pearson Test of English Academic (PTE Academic)

Test of English as a Foreign Language internet-Based Test (TOEFL iBT)

On 7 August 2025, the accepted English Language Tests (ELT) for Australian visa purposes changed.

There are now nine tests accepted. This has increased from the five tests previously accepted​.

For tests taken on or before 6 August 2025, for previously accepted ELT, previous settings and requirements will stay valid for certain timeframes, dependant on the visa eligibility. Visit the department’s website for more information on the impacts to relevant visa

Update: The Government has launched the Concessional Education Loan Scheme on July 23, 2025, under the Economic Stimulus Programme (ESP). Funded by the Government of India, this scheme aims to enable students to pursue higher education or skill development.

The Bank of Bhutan Limited (BoBL) will implement the scheme covering the period from July 2025 to June 2028.

Key features of the ESP Education Loan:
- Concessional Rate: 4% annual interest.
- No Collateral and not based on parents’ salary.
- Loan amount: Up to Nu 1.5 million for tuition and living expenses.
- Loan disbursement: Tuition fees will be paid semester-wise directly to colleges
or institutes by BoBL.

Who can apply?
- Eligible Class XII graduates below age 25 who wish to pursue undergraduate/diploma courses in Bhutan (including self-funded in public
colleges) or India.
- Vocational courses in India (open to eligible Class XII passed or TVET
graduates).

Loan repayment and tenure:
- Grace Period: Repayment starts after course duration + 1 year.
- Loan tenure: 10 years excluding grace period.
- Guarantor: Required (can be parents, siblings, or guardians).

Admission is now open for Nov 2025 intake in Australia. Interested student are requested apply online . Ielts requirements for masters degree is 6.0 with no band less than 5.5.

University of Canberra! have updated their GS requirements for applicants from Bhutan. We now need students to have a minimum of 6 months marriage certificate at the time of course commencement. This requirement has been brought down from 1 year at the time of course commencement to keep in line with the current market requirements.

Applications for Australia Awards Scholarships commencing in 2026 are now open and will close on 30 April 2025.
