ʟᴇᴀʀɴɪɴɢ ʙᴇʏᴏɴᴅ ᴛʜᴇ ᴄʟᴀꜱꜱʀᴏᴏᴍ: ᴀ ᴊᴏᴜʀɴᴇʏ ᴏꜰ ᴄᴏᴜʀᴀɢᴇ, ᴄᴜʟᴛᴜʀᴇ ᴀɴᴅ ᴄᴀᴍᴀʀᴀᴅᴇʀɪᴇ

On 19 September 2026, the Nachung Scouts of Zilukha Middle Secondary School embarked on a meaningful hiking excursion to Wangditse Lhakhang, initiated and led by Scout Leader Mr. Tshewang Dorji. The hike brought together 40 Nachung Scouts, accompanied by Nachung Leaders and members of the Advance Team.

Organised as part of the school’s scouting programme, the hike provided the scouts with an opportunity to learn and grow beyond the classroom. As they journeyed through the trails, the scouts practised teamwork, discipline, endurance, resilience and leadership, while developing greater awareness of their surroundings and basic outdoor skills.

The visit to Wangditse Lhakhang also offered a valuable opportunity for the scouts to appreciate Bhutan’s rich cultural and spiritual heritage. Through the experience, they were reminded of the importance of respecting sacred places and observing appropriate Driglam Namzha.

The hike further reinforced the values of Tha-Wa-Sum, respect for nature and the Leave No Trace principle, encouraging our young scouts to become responsible stewards of the environment. Senior scouts also took on leadership roles by guiding, supporting and caring for their fellow scouts throughout the journey.

More than a hike, the experience was a journey of learning, friendship, responsibility and personal growth, leaving our Nachung Scouts with meaningful memories and valuable lessons that extend well beyond the trail.

A heartfelt appreciation to Scout Leader Mr. Tshewang Dorji, the Nachung Leaders and Advance Team members for initiating and supporting this enriching experience, and to all the scouts for their enthusiasm, discipline and spirit of adventure.

What happens when some of the world’s most famous voices walk into a school?

On the occasion of International Literacy Day 2026, our campus came alive with powerful words, inspiring voices, and remarkable personalities during an exciting Inter-Class Declamation Competition among our talented students of Classes IX and X.

For a moment, our students stepped beyond the classroom and transformed themselves into some of the world's most influential personalities, bringing their words, ideas, emotions, and stories to life.

🎭 From Malala Yousafzai to Theodore Roosevelt,
✊ from Sojourner Truth to Adolf Hi**er,
🎤 from Trevor Noah to Dave Chappelle,
🎶 from Selena Gomez to other inspiring voices from around the world,

our students demonstrated not only their confidence in public speaking but also their ability to understand, interpret, and present the words of others with expression and conviction.

The stage became a place where history met the present, voices crossed generations, and literacy came alive through performance.

This was more than a competition. It was a celebration of the power of reading, understanding, speaking, and expressing ideas.

A huge round of applause to all the participants for their courage, creativity, preparation, and wonderful performances. You reminded us that literacy is not simply about reading words; it is about finding our own voice and using it meaningfully.

After weeks of exciting matches, passionate competition, teamwork and unforgettable football moments, the inter house football tournament came to a thrilling conclusion today with the final matches in both the Boys’ and Girls’ categories.

The tournament brought together our students in the true spirit of sportsmanship, giving them opportunities to demonstrate not only their football skills, but also teamwork, discipline, determination, leadership and respect for one another. Every match was filled with energy and enthusiasm, making the tournament a memorable celebration of football at Zilukha.

The final day of our week-long Reading Week celebration began on an inspiring note with engaging Book Talks by Tashi Khandro Lhazom (IX) and Jigme Tenzin Wangchu (X), who shared their reflections and love for reading with the school community. Their thoughtful presentations reminded us that every book opens a door to new ideas, experiences, and possibilities.

To mark the closing of this meaningful week, students of Classes IX and X presented Big Books and Banner Displays in both Dzongkha and English, showcasing their creativity, understanding, and appreciation of literature.

Adding another colourful dimension to the celebration, students of Classes VII and VIII presented infographics based on short stories, in both Dzongkha and English. Through these creative presentations, our students demonstrated that reading is not only about turning pages, but also about interpreting, creating, expressing, and sharing ideas.

A heartfelt thank you to Thimphu READ Center Thimphu READCenter and to our wonderful teachers and colleagues who generously donated books to our school. Your contributions enriched our collection and added an extra charm to our Reading Week celebration.

As we bring Reading Week to a close, we are reminded that the celebration may end, but reading must continue. This week was not an ending, but an encouragement to make reading a lasting habit, a source of joy, a pathway to knowledge, and a companion for life.

May the love for reading continue to grow, one book, one page, and one story at a time.

Day IV of our Reading Week began with a truly heartwarming and inspiring moment during the morning assembly.

Two little readers from Class II stepped forward to read a story for the gathering. They needed a little support to reach the podium because of their height, but when it came to reading, they needed no help at all! Their confidence, enthusiasm and love for stories reminded us that the joy of reading knows no age, size or limitation. What a wonderful way to begin the day!

We were also delighted to have Yeezin Rinchen Dolkar of Class VI share a thoughtful and engaging Book Talk with the gathering. Her sharing encouraged everyone to discover the joy of reading and perhaps pick up a new book to explore.

The afternoon brought even more excitement as we hosted a Readers’ Theatre Competition among Classes IV, V and VI. Each class brought an interesting story to life through creative narration, expressive performances and beautiful presentations. The young readers truly transformed the stage into a world of imagination, characters and adventure!

As we joyfully celebrate Reading Week, we are deeply grateful to acknowledge Thimphu READCenter Thimphu READ Center for its generous donation of three cartons of books to our school. This thoughtful contribution is not merely a gift of books, but a meaningful investment in the minds, imagination, and future of our young learners.

Books have the power to take children beyond the boundaries of their classrooms, introduce them to new worlds, inspire curiosity, nurture empathy, and spark dreams.
