We were delighted to open this semester’s Insights seminar series with an engaging presentation by Dr. Chencho Lhamu, Dr. Tshering Dolkar, and Dr. Rachel Jacob, who shared findings from their Royal University of Bhutan Research Grant on “Strengthening Research–Policy Engagement Between Higher Education Institutions and Policymakers in Bhutan.”

The research diagnoses some of the key challenges in connecting evidence-based research, higher education, and policymaking, while also identifying pathways towards stronger and more meaningful research–policy engagement in Bhutan.

A timely conversation on how knowledge generated in our higher education institutions can more effectively inform policy — and how policy priorities, in turn, can shape relevant research.

Thank you to our presenters and everyone who joined us for the first Insights of the semester!

SUCCESS Bhutan was pleased to contribute to the Journalist Training on “Narratives on Climate Change and Migration”, held from 1–3 July 2026 at ICIMOD, Kathmandu, Nepal.

The training brought together 26 journalists from India, Nepal, Bangladesh, Bhutan, and Pakistan, including six journalists from Bhutan, to strengthen evidence-based, ethical, and human-centred reporting on climate change, migration, livelihoods, resilience, and mobility in the Hindu Kush Himalaya region.

As part of the training, Dr Pallavi Majumdar, Professor of Communication Arts & Creative Media, RTC, presented the Bhutan perspective in the session “Reading the media: How climate mobility is framed across South Asia.” Her session focused on how climate-linked mobility is represented in Bhutanese media and why nuanced, context-sensitive reporting is critical.

Ms Tashi Paldon, Research Associate, RTC, contributed to the panel “Roots and Routes: Stories of movement, staying, and adaptation,” bringing insights into lived experiences, community perspectives, and the human dimensions of climate mobility.

RTC is proud to be part of this regional initiative that connects research, journalism, and community realities, while supporting more inclusive and responsible narratives on climate change and migration in the HKH region.
