Today, the Faculty of Nursing and Public Health (FNPH) officially launched its inaugural M.Sc. Midwifery programme, the very first of its kind at FNPH!
The ceremony was graced by the Honourable Registrar as the Chief Guest, alongside distinguished partners from UNFPA, private nursing colleges, the Kidu Medical Office, KGUMSB, NMS, the Nursing Department, and Gyaltsuen Jetsun Pema Wangchuck Mother and Child Hospital.
We are thrilled to warmly welcome the five students making up this pioneer cohort as they embark on this historic journey to lead the future of maternal healthcare in Bhutan.
This milestone is the culmination of dedicated efforts dating back to 2021. We extend our deepest gratitude to our key partners, UNFPA, the Australian Volunteer Program, and our supporters in the USA for providing the funding and technical support that made this vision a reality.
By advancing midwifery practice, education, leadership, and research, this programme will shape highly skilled professionals dedicated to maternal and newborn care in Bhutan.

Building Capacity in Family Therapy for Bhutan’s Mental Health Workforce
The Faculty of Nursing and Public Health (FNPH), KGUMSB, successfully conducted a three-day Continuing Professional Development (CPD) workshop on Minuchin Structural Family Therapy (MSFT) for Clinical Counseling faculty, fourth-year Clinical Counseling students, psychiatrists, resident psychiatrists, clinical counselors, mental health outreach workers, clinical nurses, a clinical counselor from the Gyalsung Headquarters, and counselors from the Pema Secretariat.
The workshop was facilitated by Dr. Charles Sim (Singapore), a University Professor, Systemic Marital and Family Therapist, and Clinical Supervisor affiliated with the Singapore University of Social Sciences (SUSS), the National University of Singapore (NUS), and Tianjin Normal University (TNU).
Through engaging lectures, practical case discussions, and experiential learning, participants gained valuable insights into Structural Family Therapy, strengthening their knowledge and clinical skills in working with individuals and families. The workshop fostered meaningful dialogue, interdisciplinary learning, and collaboration among mental health professionals dedicated to enhancing mental health care in Bhutan.
FNPH, KGUMSB extends its heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Charles Sim for generously sharing his expertise and conducting this workshop pro bono. His commitment to capacity building and professional development is deeply appreciated and will have a lasting impact on strengthening family therapy practice and mental health services in Bhutan.

Although the semester has concluded at FNPH, learning continues.

Over the past four days, 71 outgoing nursing students successfully completed training in NBLS (Neonatal Basic Life Support) and NALS (Neonatal Advanced Life Support). Equipped with these essential life-saving skills, they are now better prepared to provide quality neonatal care and contribute to improved newborn outcomes.

This training would not have been possible without the invaluable support of our dedicated volunteer facilitators from JDWNRH:

FNPH celebrated a day of pride, achievement, and new beginnings as we honored our graduates from various programmes. Their graduation marked not only the culmination of years of hard work, dedication, and perseverance but also the beginning of a promising new chapter in their lives.

They began their journey as young, eager individuals filled with passion and determination. Through continuous learning, resilience, and commitment, they grew into knowledgeable, mature, and capable professionals, ready to serve the King, the country, and the people with integrity and compassion.

As they embarked on this new chapter of their lives, we wished them every success and happiness in the journey ahead. Though they have left our halls, they will always remain a cherished part of the FNPH family.
