The International Day of Mathematics (IDM) is a worldwide celebration. UNESCO’s 40th General Conference proclaimed 14 March of every year as International Day of Mathematics in November 2019. The IDM was actually established by the International Mathematical Union (IMU) in 2019, to celebrate mathematics and its contributions to society. The date of March 14th was chosen because it is also known as Pi Day, in recognition of the mathematical constant pi (π), which is approximately equal to 3.14. The day is a celebration of mathematics and its contribution to science, technology, and society and highlights the importance of mathematics and its applications in everyday life, develops a love for maths among students and encourages people to study mathematics and its related fields.

Event in Yangchenphug Higher Secondary School kicked off by having a
Morning Speech by Tashi Lhamo 12 Com A, the UNESCO captain of the school and followed by class wise poster competition.

The UNESCO Team of YHSS in collaboration with Mathematics department of YHSS would like to thank Bhutan Natcom Bhutan National Commission for U N E S C O office for choosing our school and sending the kind support for the celebration of International Mathematics Day. We also would like to mention the school Administrator for providing us necessary support as well as contributing to the prizes for the winners of the Poster competition. We are also very grateful to the Judges who were kind enough to spare their precious time in coming to the school and marking the class posters. Finally to all the students we send our appreciation for your cooperation and amazing work.
