Dewathang Primary School Dewathang Primary School is the school under SamdrupJongkhar Thromde. The school aspires to to provi Dewathang Primary School was established in 1962.

The school is in Dewathang Thromdey under Samdrup Jongkhar Dzongkhag. It is located below Jigme Namgyel Polytechnic and is approximately 2.5 kilometers away from the highway leading to Trashigang. The school boasts of an area of 6 acres and 33 decimals .Ms Sonam Choden was the first Principal to administer the school which was initially started as a primary school. It got upgraded to a lower secondary in 2003 and to a middle secondary school in 2005. In 2008, the school got downgraded back to Primary School. Coincidentally, Mr. Ngawang Thinley joined the school as the Principal in the same year. The school inculcates wholesome development of its children. GNH Values and Life Skills are an integral part of the curricular and co-curricular activities which are held as per the school calendar. Mindfulness is practiced during the morning assembly, evening prayer and in between academic sessions. The school has an infrastructure of 8 blocks of which two are used as residence. Technology such as internet, facsimile and telephone has made the school accessible to the outside world. At present, there are 25 teachers including the Principal, Vice Principal and 6 contract teachers. As of March 2014, the School has the strength of 786 students -369 boys and 417 girls .

Dewathang Primary School would like to extend our sincere appreciation to the medical team from Jigme Dorji Wangchuck Military Hospital, Dewathang, for conducting the health screening of our students.

The screening included eye, dental, ear and general physical health check-ups. Although it was scheduled for one day, the team patiently continued the screening over three days to ensure that all the children were attended to.

We are truly grateful for your patience, dedication and care towards the health and well-being of our children.
Thank you to the entire medical team for your valuable service to our school community.

A special note of appreciation also goes to the School Health Committee for their support and assistance in coordinating and facilitating the health screening throughout the three days.

The School Disaster Management Focal Person highlighted the significance of National Earthquake Mock Drill Day during the morning assembly, emphasising the importance of preparedness and knowing how to respond safely during an earthquake.

Through practical preparedness exercises, we continue to foster a culture of safety, resilience, readiness and collective responsibility empowering our school to respond calmly and effectively when it matters the most.

18 September 2026 | Religious Discourse

The Wellbeing Team coordinated a Religious Discourse to nurture students’ wellbeing through spiritual guidance and values based learning. Led by the school’s Lopen Khenpo, the session offered meaningful reflections on cultivating kindness, compassion, respect and mindful conduct in our daily lives.

The discourse emphasised the importance of Treating others with kindness and dignity, Refraining from teasing, Name-calling and shaming and Showing respect and gratitude towards elders. Students were encouraged to practise compassion and mindful behaviour in their daily interactions.

The programme was attended by students of Grades IV–VI, along with teaching and non-teaching staff.

The session provided a meaningful opportunity for the school community to reflect on positive values and strengthen a culture of kindness, respect, compassion and wellbeing.

Primary Schools Sports Carnival 2026

The Primary Schools Sports Carnival 2026 brought together young athletes from Dewathang Primary School, Samdrup Jongkhar Primary School and Rekhey Primary School for a day filled with energy, enthusiasm and sporting spirit.

Through various sporting activities, students had the opportunity to showcase their skills while learning the true values of teamwork, confidence and sportsmanship. More than just competition, the carnival created a wonderful platform for students to interact, build friendships and enjoy the spirit of healthy competition.

The successful event was a celebration of active participation, camaraderie and the joy of sport and reminding us that every game is an opportunity to learn, grow and play together.

Reading Week came to a meaningful close on Friday, 11th September 2026 with a Poster Competition, where students showcased their creativity and shared their love for reading through colourful and thoughtful ideas.

Having prepared throughout the week, the children participated with enthusiasm and put their learning and imagination into practice. It was wonderful to see their efforts come together in such a creative way.

Today may have been hot and sunny but that did not stop our learners from having a wonderful time during Reading Week.

Classes II (Dzongkha) and III (English) brought stories to life through Readers’ Theatre, while Classes IV, V and VI confidently shared their favourite reads through Book Talks.

Learning Beyond the Classroom

On 8 September 2026, the students of Class VI A, B, C and D accompanied by their Mathematics and ICT teachers, had the privilege of visiting Jigme Namgyel Engineering College (JNEC) for a meaningful place-based learning experience.

The visit included DIT, the Library, BE1PE Drawing Session with a focus on Geometrical Construction, the HVAC Lab and the Lecture Theatre, giving our students an opportunity to connect classroom learning with authentic applications in Mathematics, ICT and engineering.

We extend our sincere gratitude to the management, faculty and staff of Jigme Namgyel Engineering College for their warm hospitality, valuable support and for making the visit a meaningful learning experience for our students. We are equally grateful for the kind refreshments provided by the College.

Reading Week 2026
Theme: “Literacy for People, Planet and Prosperity”

The Literary Committee officially commenced Reading Week today with a meaningful opening programme centred on the importance and joy of reading.

The programme began with opening remarks by the Literary Coordinator, Mrs. Dechen Wangmo, followed by an address from the Principal. Mr. Tshering Wangdi also highlighted the importance of reading and its role in enriching students’ learning, knowledge and imagination.

Two teachers Ms Sonam Zangmo (English) and Mrs. Dorji Wangmo D (Dzongkha) also modelled reading, making the session engaging and inspiring. The programme concluded with the awarding of prizes to the best essay writers from each class level in English and Dzongkha.
