Project 108: Royal University of Bhutan’s Offering

The family of the Royal University of Bhutan has come forward in support of Project 108, joining His Majesty The King’s vision to establish 108 Jangchub Chortens in Gelephu Mindfulness City.

As an institution dedicated to learning and the education of Bhutan’s young people, the offering carries a natural connection to the aspiration for wisdom and understanding that lies at the heart of the Jangchub Chorten.

It is a reminder that the legacy of Project 108 will not only be built in stone, but also carried forward through the people and generations who will shape Bhutan’s future.

𝗝𝗡𝗘𝗖 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝗱𝘂𝗰𝘁𝘀 𝗔𝗣𝗔 𝗥𝗲𝗳𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗸𝘀𝗵𝗼𝗽

The Department of Humanities and Management organized a workshop on APA Referencing Style (7th Edition) on 19 August 2026, engaging over 300 first‑year students at Jigme Namgyel Engineering College.

Facilitated by lecturers Gangaram Bhattarai and Pema Wangchuk, the workshop provided hands‑on training in in‑text citations, reference preparation, and academic documentation. Students practiced citing books, journal articles, online sources, and personal communications, strengthening their skills in academic integrity and professional writing.

The program also featured insight sharing by the Officiating President and a talk by the Head of Department, Humanities and Management, who emphasized the importance of academic integrity and ethical considerations in higher education.

Funding support for stationery and refreshments was generously provided by the College’s Business and Incubation Centre, ensuring effective delivery and active participation throughout the session.

This initiative reflects JNEC’s commitment to nurturing academic excellence, equipping students with essential competencies for research, project documentation, and professional success. The Department hopes to follow up with a similar workshop on IEEE in the coming months.

The 12th Cohort of the Competency-Based Training (CBT) for Technicians from Dzongkhags, Thromdes, Agencies, and Ministries commenced on 18 August 2026 at Jigme Namgyel Engineering College (JNEC), Dewathang, Samdrup Jongkhar. A total of 30 participants from Phuentsholing, Thimphu, Chukha, Gelephu CRRH, Damphu Hospital, and the Department of Surface Transport are participating in the training.

The opening ceremony was graced by the Officiating President of JNEC, Mr. Chenga Dorji. In his opening remarks, he emphasized the importance of clearly defined roles and responsibilities within the engineering sector to ensure the delivery of competent, efficient, and high-quality services. He also highlighted the Government's vision outlined in Bhutan's 21st Century Economic Roadmap – A 10X National Economic Vision, underscoring its relevance to the participants' professional development and their contribution to the country's broader development goals.

The ceremony was attended by the Deans, Heads of Departments, resource persons, and Mr. Sonam Thinley, Deputy Chief HRO from the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport (MoIT). In his remarks, Mr. Thinley encouraged the participants to take full advantage of the training and approach the programme with commitment and seriousness. He further encouraged them to prepare themselves to take on diverse responsibilities upon completion of the training and to develop the versatility required to perform effectively across different functions and departments.

The CBT programme is designed to strengthen the participants' technical knowledge and practical competencies relevant to their professional responsibilities. The training covers the following key areas:
1. Basic Information Technology
2. Quality Control and Assurance
3. Estimation and Costing for Small Works
4. Basic AutoCAD
5. Basic Survey
6. E-Tool, E-GP, and Procurement Rules and Regulations (PRR)

The CBT programme has been successfully conducted for eleven cohorts to date and has contributed significantly to capacity building and professional development among technicians serving in various government agencies.

The 12th Cohort is being conducted in collaboration with the Royal Civil Service Commission (RCSC), Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport (MoIT), and Jigme Namgyel Engineering College (JNEC).
The training will continue until 9 September 2026, providing participants with opportunities to strengthen their competencies, broaden their professional capabilities, and enhance their ability to deliver effective and quality technical services in their respective workplaces.

𝗖𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗴𝗲 𝗥𝗶𝗺𝗱𝗿𝗼 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲

Jigme Namgyel Engineering College conducted a Rimdro ceremony on 15 August, with the auspicious occasion presided over by the Central Monastic Body of Samdrup Jongkhar.

The ceremony included Sherning Due Dog, Tshokhor, Sang, Rabney, and Gegtret at the renovated house, as students and staff gathered to make offerings and receive blessings for the well-being, protection, and prosperity of the College community.

Staff and students participated by offering Nyender, Drunas, and Tshogs, while refreshments were served by the student coordinators. The ceremony provided a meaningful opportunity for the JNEC community to come together in prayer and devotion, seeking blessings for peace, harmony, good health, and a successful academic journey.

JNEC extends its sincere gratitude to the Central Monastic Body of Samdrup Jongkhar for conducting the sacred ceremony and offering their blessings to the College community.

Jigme Namgyel Engineering College (JNEC) welcomed an entourage of teachers and top-performing students from Karmaling Higher Secondary School, Samdrup Jongkhar, on 14 August 2026 for an educational field visit. The visit was aimed at exposing students to state-of-the-art laboratories and facilities while providing them with an opportunity to explore higher education programmes and career pathways offered at JNEC.

During the visit, the students received a guided tour of the college’s facilities and gained valuable hands-on experience at the FabLab. They were introduced to practical applications of digital fabrication and innovation through activities such as basic CAD design, live 3D printing, laser cutting, and heat printing on ceramic materials. These activities enabled the students to connect concepts learned in the classroom with real-world technological applications.

The students also visited the Ground Station, where they were introduced to the fundamentals of satellite communication. They learned about satellite tracking, digital modulation, signal transmission and reception, and the use of high-frequency antennas. The exposure provided an insight into how communication technologies and engineering principles are applied in practical settings.

In addition, the students explored the various academic and support resources available on the JNEC campus, including laboratories, facilities, and the college library. The visit also served as an opportunity for students to learn more about higher study courses and the academic opportunities available at JNEC.

The visiting students described the field trip as an exceptional initiative by both Karmaling Higher Secondary School and JNEC. They appreciated the opportunity to experience advanced facilities firsthand, understand the practical applications of technologies they encounter in their studies, and engage with innovation beyond the classroom. The exposure was seen as an encouraging and motivating experience that could help students make informed decisions about their future studies and careers in science, technology, and engineering.

The students expressed their sincere gratitude to the management, teachers, and staff of JNEC for their warm reception, guidance, and for providing such a meaningful learning experience. Overall, the field visit successfully strengthened the connection between school-level learning and higher education while inspiring students to pursue further studies and explore opportunities in technology and engineering

The college community had the honor of hosting a significant awareness and discussion session on the Marriage (Amendment) Bill 2026 at the Responsiveness Hall today. The session was graced by the distinguished members of the Natural Resources and Environment Committee of the National Council of Bhutan.

We were deeply honored by the presence of:

• Hon. Nima Wangdi, Deputy Committee Chair and National Council Member from Tsirang

Their visit highlighted the strong bond between governance and education, offering our students and faculty a rare opportunity to engage directly with the nation’s lawmakers. The session enriched understanding of the legislative process, the values guiding lawmaking in Bhutan, and the importance of dialogue in shaping the future of our society.

The officiating president, faculty members, staff, and students also joined the gathering, demonstrating JNEC’s collective commitment to learning beyond the classroom and nurturing informed citizens who contribute meaningfully to the nation.

Today’s session was not only about learning the details of the Marriage Act (Amendment) Bill, but also about appreciating inclusivity, responsibility, and the role of education in strengthening democracy.
