Please Donโ€™t Kill Snakes

A Banded Krait was sadly killed with stones on the way to Jangsa. This species is rare and plays a vital role in maintaining the ecosystem.

Snakes are important for natureโ€™s balance as they control rats and other pests. Most snakes are harmless and avoid people. Even venomous snakes attack only when threatened. If you see a snake at your place, stay calm, keep your distance, and inform the nearest forestry office. Snakes help protect our crops and environment, letโ€™s protect them in return.

We recently concluded our final block week for the course and it was an incredible experience enriched by the participation of our Master's students. Hereโ€™s a glimpse of the activities we engaged in during this memorable week:

- Birding Excursions

Each morning, from 6 to 8 AM, we embarked on birding adventures. Our final birding session was especially enlightening, as we were guided by a forest officer who specializes in avian species. His expertise helped us identify various birds and understand their conservation status in Bhutan.

-Biodiversity Surveys

We conducted a biodiversity survey using square plots around the Southern Wildlife Rescue and Rehabilitation Centre (SWRRC). This hands-on activity allowed us to deepen our understanding of local ecosystems and the importance of biodiversity conservation.

-Visits to Conservation Centers

โ€ข Sarpang Divisional Forest Office: We started our week with a presentation on the biodiversity and conservation status of Sarpang, setting the stage for our learning journey.

โ€ข Royal Manas National Park: Our visit to the head office in Gelephu was a highlight. We learned about the park's successful community involvement in conservation efforts, earning it the title "Land of the Tiger."

โ€ข National Development Centre for Aquaculture: We explored fish conservation efforts through an engaging presentation and a tour of their hatchery and ponds. It was fascinating to see various fish species up close and learn about aquaculture practices.

- Botanization

Accompanied by Master's students and knowledgeable field officers, we delved into botanization, enhancing our understanding of local plant species and their ecological significance.

We had the pleasure of dining with the Sarpang Chief Forestry Officer and other forest officers. This interaction provided us with valuable insights into forestry practices and fostered meaningful discussions about conservation efforts.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to:
โ€ข The Sarpang Divisional Forest Office for their hospitality and supporting our accommodation at SWRRC.
โ€ข The Royal Manas National Park team for their warm welcome and informative presentations.
โ€ข The National Development Centre for Aquaculture for their insightful tour and commitment to fish conservation.
โ€ข Our module tutor for guiding us through an unforgettable block week, and Dr. Bhagat, our HOD, for accompanying us on this journey.

Thank you all for making this block week an enriching experience! ๐ŸŒฟ๐Ÿฆ๐ŸŸ
