Last year, Bhutan suffered devastating forest fires across many dzongkhags. A result of carelessness, negligence, and lack of awareness.
Our forests are more than trees; they are our water source, our air filter, our climate protector, and home to countless species.
Forest fires are one of the most significant and recurring threats in Bhutan, especially during the dry season from November to May each year. Between 2015 and May 2025, the Department of Forests and Park Services (DoFPS) recorded ๐๐๐ ๐๐ข๐ซ๐ ๐ข๐ง๐๐ข๐๐๐ง๐ญ๐ฌ that damaged about ๐๐,๐๐๐ ๐ก๐๐๐ญ๐๐ซ๐๐ฌ of forest. In just the first five months of 2025, 54 fires incidents destroyed around 9,604 acres of forest land.
๏ฟฝOne small spark can destroy all of that in seconds.
As we enter the dry season, letโs act before itโs too late.
โ
Avoid any form of open burning
โ
Be cautious during hikes, picnics, and outdoor work
โ
Report fires or smoke immediately
โ
Educate your community, friends, and families
๐ฅ To all students and youth โ your voice matters.๏ฟฝUse your power to raise awareness in your schools, colleges, and online.๏ฟฝBe leaders in protecting our environment.
๐ Forest fire prevention is not just the governmentโs job โ Itโs yours, mine, and every Bhutanese citizenโs responsibility.
