‘JANGSEM MIGMAR’ BECOMES OUR CULTURE
We cannot enforce stop meat eating, but we can lessen meat eating on Mondays. This one small step is a compassionate promise to respect rights of animals to live their life as living beings than to be treated like vegetables.
An awareness and institutionalization programme for JANGSEM MIGMAR was carried out by Gyutrul Wangchuk, Vice Principal, for staff and students of Dechentsemo on 4th December 2020.
Under the auspices of JANGSEM MONDAY ideology and lifestyle practices initiated by Karma Dendup, who is a reporter with Bhutan Broadcasting Service. The compassionate movement to safe animal lives started on July 7, 2014. Today, this initiative is being supported by Humane Society International (HIS) based in Hyderabad, India.
This is the vision of one man who saw that going meatless for a day could save lives of thousands of animals. And thus, Dechentsemo’s Jangsem Monday is a borrowed idea to go MEATLESS ON MONDAYS to improve health and state of the planet.
This initiative will stop killings and save lives of thousand animals over time. It was a great grand success to have initiated Dechentsemo as JANGSEM MIGMARIANS -A saviour of animals.
“If you cannot save one life a week, one Monday can make differences in the lives of many animals by refraining meat all together on Mondays. This is an active practice of compassion to gain merit and blessings of long life and wellbeing for ourselves.” Principal.

Lu Bum Consecration
On the 26th, November 2020, the Lu Bum committee members were finally able to breathe an air of relief. The consecration for the Tsomem Phodrang ( Palace of the Mermaid) was a great success.

The religious ceremony, which was conducted by venerable former Tse Lop of Punakha, began at 6 am. The event also included tea serving for the whole Dechetsemo staff from 9 am to 10 am. The event concluded at around 11 am with serving lunch to the Lam and monks.

The work for the construction of the Lu Bum started from about a month ago. The consecration is a moment of pride for Dechentsemo, to present a grand palace, and a larger lake to the resident Mermaid. The palace is taller than what was initially planned. Even the lake was made wider and deeper.

The formless beings own the land we live, and as we live, we must respect the place that belongs to them. We are guests to any places we live, for these land and mountains, rocks and rivers, trees and foliage is a home to one other spirits and divinities.

The Lu Bum committee members deserves to be appreciated for their determination to work together till the end of the project. Lop. Wangchuk Namgay, Lop. Ugyen Lhendup and Lop Kinga Om went out of their ways to ensure it’s grandeur and completeness. Of course the success could not have happened without the support of other members of the committee, and guidance from Principal and Vice Principal. Also, as always, we are proud to have support and wisdom from Ap Damchoe Wangchuk, Vice SMB ChairPerson.
