𝟑𝐫𝐝-𝐘𝐞𝐚𝐫 𝐍𝐮𝐫𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐒𝐭𝐮𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐬 𝐁𝐞𝐠𝐢𝐧 𝐂𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐥 𝐏𝐨𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠

Two groups of 3rd-year nursing students have commenced their six-week clinical posting at Samtse General Hospital and Mongar Regional Referral Hospital (Mongar ERRH).

As part of the commencement of their clinical placement, orientation sessions were conducted at both hospitals by the Chief Nursing Officer, ward in-charges, and Chief Medical Officer (CMO). The sessions introduced students to the hospital environment, clinical departments and areas, institutional policies and procedures, and the expectations governing their clinical placement.

𝐀 𝐌𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐡-𝐋𝐨𝐧𝐠 𝐂𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐥 𝐋𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐬 𝐭𝐨 𝐚𝐧 𝐄𝐧𝐝

After a month-long clinical placement, our second-year nursing students are now ready for their well-deserved vacation. The placement was an intensive period of hands-on learning.

At Gomtu Hospital, students participated in an OSCE organized by the hospital to assess their clinical competencies. The hospital also recognized the top-performing students with small prizes, followed by a warm farewell gathering to mark the completion of their placement.

At Tashicholing Hospital, Sipso, students took part in a full-day clinical learning session that focused on Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS). The session was coordinated by the ER and ward in-charges and facilitated by Brother Karna and Brother Nima.

Dr. Aripta Pradhan also facilitated a session on patient assessment and history-taking, helping students develop essential skills for systematic nursing assessment and effective patient interaction.

In addition, hospital staff conducted bedside, case-based teaching sessions to better understand how the nursing process is applied in clinical practice. With new skills, experiences, and memories, our second-year students now begin their vacation.

𝐈𝐧-𝐇𝐨𝐮𝐬𝐞 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐟𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐃𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐥𝐨𝐩𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐨𝐧 𝐍𝐁𝐋𝐒 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐍𝐀𝐋𝐒

An in-house Professional Development (PD) session on Neonatal Basic Life Support (NBLS) and Neonatal Advanced Life Support (NALS) was conducted for the lecturers present on campus.

The session was facilitated by our lecturers Madam Sonam Zangmo and Ms. Purnima, who recently completed their NBLS and NALS training at Phuentsholing General Hospital. The session provided an opportunity for the faculty to refresh and strengthen their knowledge and skills in neonatal resuscitation and emergency care.

𝐀𝐈 𝐢𝐧 𝐍𝐮𝐫𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐠: 𝐀 𝐒𝐭𝐮𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐭-𝐋𝐞𝐝 𝐖𝐨𝐫𝐤𝐬𝐡𝐨𝐩

As part of a hands-on learning experience, our third-year nursing students organised and conducted a real-world workshop on “AI and Nursing,” with first-year students as participants.

From designing invitation cards and inviting participants to preparing budgets and welcoming spectators, students took responsibility for every aspect of organising a professional workshop.

The experience gave students the opportunity to develop essential skills in leadership, teamwork, communication, planning, budgeting, coordination, and event management.

During their visit to the campus, members from the university and the council also had the opportunity to observe the students in action and witness this practical, student-led learning experience.

A Temporary Solution or a Sustainable Strategy to Address the Nursing Shortage?

Our first-year and third-year nursing students came together for an engaging debate on a topic that is currently part of an important public discussion in Bhutan.

What made the event particularly meaningful was not simply who won, but seeing our students step forward, engage with a real-world issue, and confidently express their views. It was encouraging to see them go beyond the classroom and participate in a conversation that directly relates to the future of nursing in Bhutan.

Congratulations to the winning team and to the other team for putting up a strong fight.

To observe World Su***de Prevention Month, our first-year nursing students took part in a poster competition to raise awareness about su***de prevention and the importance of mental well-being.
With su***de cases continuing to be a concern in our communities, creating spaces for open conversations is more important than ever. Through their posters, our students used creativity to explore meaningful ways of communicating messages of hope, encouraging people to speak up, reach out, and support one another.

A panel discussion on Hospital Management System (HMS) and Hospital Management Information System (HMIS) was conducted on 28 August 2026 by our third-year students. The discussion focused on the importance of effective hospital management and the role of information systems in improving healthcare services.

Key areas of discussion included patient management, record-keeping, hospital administration, communication, data management, and efficient delivery of healthcare services.

The panel discussion has helped them develop their communication, critical thinking, teamwork, and presentation skills while gaining a better understanding of hospital management and healthcare information systems.

Tandin Lhamo is currently pursuing a three-year Diploma in General Nursing and Midwifery (GNM) program at Arura Academy.

Coming from a humble family, Tandin’s dream of pursuing higher education is now becoming a reality through the generous support of Madam Pema Chokey from Samdrup Jongkhar and her group of friends, who are sponsoring her education.

We hope Tandin’s story will inspire those who are in a position to help to extend a helping hand and give a child the opportunity to pursue their education and build a brighter future.

We wish Tandin every success in her studies and hope she continues to pursue her dreams with determination and courage.
