Lhuentse Higher Secondary School

Lhuentse Higher Secondary School Lhuentse Higher Secondary School is located below Thoshupang in Gangzur Gewog, occupying 31.189 acres of land.

It is situated a few hundred meters above the district hospital, a ten-minute walk from Lhuentse Town, and fifteen minutes from the District. Lhuentse Higher Secondary School is located below Thoshupang under Gangzur Gewog and it has 31.2 acres of land. The school is a few hundred metres above the district hospital, about ten minutes walk from Lhuntse Town and fifteen minutes from the Dzongkhag headquarter. It is a boarding school with a capacity to accommodate 128 boys and 96 girls. It provides education to students from classes VII to XII. Lhuentse Higher Secondary school was constructed under the World Bank funding and established in 2004 as Phuyum Middle Secondary School with nine teachers and 282 students from classes 7 to 9. The school was upgraded to its present status in 2006. Phuyum, being understood as place where forefathers were extinct, did not befit the name for a seat of learning. The proposal put up by the school for change of school name from Phuyum to Lhuentse was endorsed by the 29th Tshogdu of Lhuntse Dzongkhag and accordingly approved by the Education Ministry vide letter MoE/DSE/SLCD/Misc/2011/3422 dated April 14, 2011.

Earthquake Mock Drill

The School Disaster Management Unit conducted an earthquake mock drill to strengthen preparedness and ensure that students and staff know how to respond safely during an earthquake.

The drill focused on "Drop, Cover and Hold,” orderly evacuation, movement to the designated assembly area, and attendance checking.

With Bhutan experiencing three earthquakes in recent months, the drill was a timely reminder of the importance of preparedness, awareness and coordinated response in ensuring school safety.

Honouring a Historic Achievement and Inspiring Young Leaders

School had the honour of welcoming Hon’ble Dasho Tempa Dorji, Speaker of the National Assembly, accompanied by Hon’ble Dasho Loday Tsheten, Hon’ble Dasho Kezang Lhuendrup and Hon'ble Dasho Dzongda of Lhuentse Dzongkhag.

We warmly congratulate Dasho Tempa Dorji on his historic election as the first Opposition Member to serve as Speaker of the National Assembly, marking a significant milestone in Bhutan’s democratic journey.

Addressing the students, Dasho emphasized on purposeful learning, the effective use of technology and AI, self-leadership, character, and responsibility. He also awarded Tashi Khadar and leadership batch to the newly elected Deputy Councilors.

The visit concluded with meaningful interactions with students and staff on education, governance, policy, and technology.

The visit is truly memorable and inspiring occasion for the Lhuentse HSS family!
