A Glimpse of the Celebration of the 71st Birth Anniversary of His Holiness the 70th Je Khenpo, Trulku Jigme Choedra.

Today, we are very happy and blessed to celebrate the 71st birth anniversary of His Holiness the 70th Je Khenpo, Trulku Jigme Choedra, our precious Root Guru and a great spiritual guide for all sentient beings, especially for the people of Bhutan.

On this special and auspicious occasion, the Gelephu Middle Secondary School family would like to offer our heartfelt Tashi Delek and warmest birthday wishes to His Holiness the 70th Je Khenpo, Trulku Jigme Choedra.

📢 **Earthquake Evacuation Drill Conducted at Gelephu Middle Secondary School**

📅 **Date:** 12 June 2026

As part of our commitment to ensuring the safety and preparedness of our school community, Gelephu Middle Secondary School successfully conducted an Earthquake Evacuation Drill on 12 June 2026.

The drill aimed to familiarize students and staff with proper earthquake safety procedures and emergency response protocols. During the simulated earthquake, students and staff effectively practiced the **"Duck, Cover, and Hold On"** technique inside classrooms, while those outdoors followed open-space safety procedures by moving away from buildings and other potential hazards.

Following the emergency signal, teachers guided students through designated evacuation routes to the assembly area in an orderly manner. Class Captains played an important leadership role by conducting headcounts and reporting attendance to the Incident Commander, ensuring that all students were accounted for.

The exercise provided valuable hands-on experience, reinforced emergency preparedness, and highlighted the importance of teamwork, discipline, and leadership during crisis situations. Minor challenges identified during the drill will help further strengthen our emergency response procedures.

🎉 Harmony & Togetherness Programme 2026 🎉

On 6th June 2026, Gelephu Middle Secondary School successfully conducted the Harmony & Togetherness Programme to celebrate the successful completion of the Cultural Show and Annual Rimdro activities.
The programme brought together students, staff, and parents in a spirit of friendship, cooperation, and unity. The day began with the dedicated efforts of the Cooking Team, Chopping Team, and Shopping Committee, who worked tirelessly to prepare refreshments and lunch for everyone.

A wide range of recreational and sporting activities, including volleyball, basketball, football, badminton, chess, Chinese checkers, online games, and musical sessions, created a vibrant and joyful atmosphere across the school campus. These activities provided valuable opportunities for students and staff to interact, collaborate, and strengthen relationships beyond the classroom.

The presence and participation of parents added warmth and significance to the celebration, reflecting the strong partnership between the school and the community. The programme concluded with a communal lunch, where students, staff, and parents gathered together to share a meal and celebrate the spirit of togetherness.

The event was filled with laughter, teamwork, sportsmanship, and meaningful connections, successfully achieving its objective of promoting harmony, friendship, and a strong sense of belonging within the school community.

Nurture a tree is a national environmental initiative of the Bhutan Youth Development Fund ( BYDF) , led by the young volunteers in action (Y- VIA) by the Youth Volunteer network of BYDF.
This initiative was officially launched on 2nd June 2023, president of the Bhutan Youth Development Fund to “ The fourth Druk Gyalpo Jigme Singye Wangchuck ‘.

In commemoration of this auspicious occasion,the principal, the teachers, Y-VIA members in the school and students of Gelephu Middle Secondary School joined the nation in observing the day by planting tree saplings in the school campus.This meaningful initiative reflects our collective commitment to environmental conservation and our shared vision of fostering a greener, healthier, and more sustainable future for generations to come. Through this small yet significant effort, we aim to instill a sense of responsibility and care for nature among our young learners while contributing positively to the environment.

📅 28th May – Menstrual Hygiene Day Observed in School

Our school proudly observed Menstrual Hygiene Day with meaningful activities to raise awareness and promote healthy practices among students.

Students actively participated by sharing their knowledge and understanding of menstrual hygiene, helping to break myths and encourage open conversations. It was inspiring to see their confidence and awareness on such an important topic.

A special appreciation goes to our gents teachers, who showed their strong support by contributing sanitary pads. This gesture reflects unity, care, and the importance of collective responsibility in promoting menstrual health.

🏏 Sports Achievement
Adding to the day’s pride, our school also participated in the Under-19 Cricket Tournament among 10 schools in Sarpang Dzongkhag, where we secured the position of Runners-Up. Congratulations to our talented players for their dedication and teamwork!
