📡 Educational Field Visit to Neylang Substation ⚡
The Diploma in Electrical Engineering students successfully conducted a field visit on May 6th, 2026, to the 132 kV /33 kV /11 kV Neylang Substation, Dewathang an invaluable opportunity to witness the practical power transmission and distribution, focusing on Substation functioning.
This visit served as a vital bridge between classroom learning and real-world application, allowing students to observe the functioning of critical Substation infrastructure that ensures reliable electricity supply.
✨ Key Learnings & Takeaways:
• 🔌 Transformer Operations – Understanding Voltage changing operation, step-down processes in voltage regulation then supplying.
• 🛡️ Protection Systems – Observing mechanisms that safeguard equipment and ensure system stability.
• ⚙️ Switchgear Functionality – Gaining insights into safe control and isolation of circuits.
• 🌍 Power Flow Awareness – Appreciating how electricity travels from generation plants to end-users.
• 📖 Theory into Practice – Reinforcing classroom concepts with hands-on exposure.
Such experiences not only enhance technical competence but also inspire future engineers to contribute meaningfully to Bhutan’s energy sector.

As distribution systems become increasingly active, monitoring their health and performance is essential. To address the high cost of off-the-shelf solutions, our BE4PE students developed an affordable monitoring module. This achievement was featured by The Bhutanese.
