REMARKS FROM OUR PRESIDENT:
Legendary anti-apartheid activist and first Black President of South Africa, Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela, famously said, βIt always seems impossible until it's done.β
"Exciting," "brilliant," "unforgettable," "inspiring," "historic," "enlightening," and "timely" are just a handful of adjectives that I believe describes this year's Legal Week. We could not have envisaged a more amazing Legal Week! On behalf of the Executive Team of The Law Society, it is with immense joy that I offer our heartfelt expression of gratitude for making Legal Week 2025 a resounding success.
Firstly, we are deeply appreciative of our most esteemed presenters, the Hon. Philip E. Davis, KC, our Prime Minister; Sen the Hon. L. Ryan Pinder, KC, our Attorney General & Minister of Legal Affairs; the Hon. Jo Beth Coleby-Davis, Minister of Energy & Transport; Magistrate Ian-Marie Darville-Miller; Sen. the Hon. Michela Barnett-Ellis; Mr. Damien Gomez, KC; Mr. Kahlil Parker, KC, President of the Bahamas Bar Association, and a host of other prominent attorneys. Your participation in Legal Week has further edified our legal education. You have also inspired us to pursue our unique passions; analyze law and its societal implications; ask the hard questions; and consider new solutions. Again, thank you for gracing us with your presence and sharing your valuable insights.
To our Advisors, the Hon. Mr. Justice Franklyn Williams, KC and Dr. Bernadette Bain, thank you for believing in us, encouraging us, and supporting us throughout the entire week. You cannot imagine how much we valued having you worship with us at church, or seeing your smiling faces in the audience. You are both excellent advisors and we appreciate you dearly.
To the leadership and faculty of the LLB (Laws) Department, thank you for giving us the opportunity to host an incredible event like Legal Week. We appreciate your support, and we hope that even after the majority of this executive team has graduated, this event will live on bigger and better.
To the Chair of the University of The Bahamas' Board of Trustees, President of The University of The Bahamas, Campus Life Dept., Business Enterprises Dept., UB Libraries, Franklyn R. Wilson Graduate Research Centre Dept., Security Dept., and other extended staff, thank you for assisting us with hosting this event. We absolutely could not have done it without you.
And last, but certainly not least, thank you, LAW SOCIETY! Whether you were a member of the coordinating committee, protocol team, nightly role player, or just an attendee, we express immense gratitude to you. You stepped up to the plate and represented your organization well! YOU SHOULD BE EXTREMELY PROUD! Your efforts and presence have made this event truly memorable.
Once again, thank you to all for making this week a momentous one. May this Law Society have perpetual success in Jesusβ name.
