EDLS / STEP Bahamas Moot 2026 demonstrated the immense talent among our students. Participants were challenged to research and develop compelling arguments, providing them with a valuable opportunity to put their skills into practice.

Congratulations once again to the winning team, Team McKinney, Bancroft & Hughes! We also commend Team Callenders & Co. for the dedication and hard work they demonstrated throughout their preparation for the competition.

On Friday, 20 March 2026, students of the Eugene Dupuch Law School and the University of The Bahamas participated in The Bench and the Bar Ahead: In Conversation with Justice Ononaiwu, a student-led discussion featuring The Honourable Madame Justice Chantal Ononaiwu, Judge of the Caribbean Court of Justice.

The engaging session provided students with a unique opportunity to exchange ideas, ask questions, and gain valuable perspectives on the legal profession, judicial service, and the evolving role of law in the Caribbean. The discussion highlighted the importance of critical thinking, professional development, and meaningful dialogue between current and future leaders of the legal community.

The Eugene Dupuch Law School (EDLS) was honoured to host its 2026 Distinguished Lecture, featuring The Honourable Justice Chantal Ononaiwu, Judge of the Caribbean Court of Justice (CCJ). The distinguished event brought together members of the legal profession, judiciary, academia, students, and stakeholders for an engaging and thought-provoking discussion on contemporary legal issues affecting the Caribbean region.

Justice Ononaiwu shared invaluable insights drawn from her extensive experience in the administration of justice and the development of Caribbean jurisprudence, highlighting the critical role of legal institutions in upholding the rule of law, advancing access to justice, and strengthening democratic governance. Her address inspired meaningful dialogue and reinforced the importance of excellence, integrity, and service within the legal profession.

The Eugene Dupuch Law School Distinguished Lecture continues to provide a platform for intellectual exchange and professional development, connecting the School community with leading legal minds who are shaping the future of law in the Caribbean and beyond.

Eugene Dupuch Law School commends everyone who submitted an essay to the Fifth Annual Environmental Law Clinic essay competition. The event requires high school students between grades 9-12 to explore their understanding of legal topics, share their perspectives, and ultimately strengthen their critical thinking skills. We’re proud to continue providing the next generation of Bahamian leaders with a platform to learn, engage, and make their voices heard.

At Eugene Dupuch Law School, we believe it's important to push the boundaries of critical thought and cultivate a body of students who advocate for justice, service, and advocacy. On June 18, we announced the winners of both the Constitutional Committee Essay Competition and the Environmental Law Clinic High School Student Essay Competition.

College students across The Bahamas were invited to share their opinions regarding whether, “the protection of children may justify limitations on fundamental freedoms.” While the high schoolers in grades 9-12 who participated in the Environmental Law Clinic were asked to confront the challenges of enforcement, climate vulnerability, and sustainable development.

Through both competitions, participants demonstrated a readiness to engage in critical thought and consider the future of legislation in The Bahamas. Everyone received a certificate of completion to recognize the efforts they made in submitting a thought provoking essay. It is our hope that these competitions inspire a passion for law and legislation and encourage participants to consider a career in the field.

On Saturday 18 July, 2026, we celebrated the inaugural cohort of the Employment Law & HR Fundamentals course on their successful completion of the course.

Delivered through our Professional Development Programme, the 6 week course provided participants with practical knowledge of key employment law principles and human resource practices, equipping them to navigate today’s workplace with greater confidence.

On Thursday, 16 July 2026, the Eugene Dupuch Law School celebrated the graduates of its Paralegal Studies Course, delivered through the School’s Professional Development Programme.

We extend sincere thanks to EDLS alumnus and former Attorney General L. Ryan Pinder, K.C., for delivering the keynote address. In his remarks, he highlighted the vital role paralegals play within the legal profession, noting that lawyers depend heavily on their knowledge, skill and support to function effectively.

As the School’s largest Paralegal Studies cohort to date, this graduating class reflects the continued demand for professional legal training. Congratulations to each graduate on this achievement. We wish you continued success as you apply your training and make a valuable contribution to the legal profession.

Way to Go, Sahnar!

The Eugene Dupuch Law School is delighted to recognize Miss Sahnar Pinder, a student at Aquinas College, Nassau, The Bahamas, who completed a Job Shadowing and Community Service experience at the Eugene Dupuch Law School Library during the month of June 2026.

During her placement, Sahnar made a valuable contribution to the Library’s ongoing digitisation efforts, working extensively on materials destined for the Digital Library of the Caribbean (dLOC). Through her dedication, attention to detail, and willingness to learn, she helped support the preservation and accessibility of important Caribbean resources for researchers and future generations.

We commend Sahnar for her hard work and commitment, and we thank her for being a part of the EDLS community. We wish her every success in her future academic and professional endeavors!
