The Satellite Development track of the Environmental and Aerospace Satellite Engineering (EASE) Programme launches on 14 September.

𝗥𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗺𝗯𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗗𝗮𝗵𝗽𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗲𝘆 𝗠𝗮𝘅𝗶𝗻𝗲, 𝗔 𝗖𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗶𝘀𝗵𝗲𝗱 𝗠𝗲𝗺𝗯𝗲𝗿 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗨𝗕 𝗠𝗶𝗻𝗴𝗼𝗲𝘀 𝗙𝗮𝗺𝗶𝗹𝘆
The University of The Bahamas community is mourning the passing of Dahphaney Maxine, a beloved student, student-athlete, campus leader and friend to many, who passed away on Monday, 31st August, 2026.

A sophomore in the School of Education, Dahphaney was pursuing a degree in Physical Education K–12, having transitioned from the pre-Nursing programme. She was passionate about education, sports and serving others, with dreams of pursuing graduate studies in Sports Medicine.

Dahphaney embraced university life wholeheartedly. She was a member of the UB Mingoes Women’s Volleyball Team, served as a Resident Assistant and Treasurer of the Residence Hall Association, and was actively involved in student leadership, including her work with the Bahamas Youth Network.

But for those who knew her, Dahphaney will be remembered for so much more than her accomplishments. She was warm, energetic and full of life. A passionate member of the dance ministry at Change Ministries International, she found joy in worship and liturgical dance.

Dahphaney also had a remarkable way of making people feel welcome. She would go out of her way to help others, draw people in and make sure no one felt left out. That same warmth and energy made her a beloved member of the UB Mingoes family. Women’s Volleyball Head Coach Raymond Wilson said Dahphaney became an immediate part of the team, fitting in “as if she was always there.” Her teammates remember her as a sister whose kindness, love and beautiful spirit strengthened the bond they shared both on and off the court.

Dahphaney’s dedication and promise were evident long before she came to UB. A native of Abaco, she graduated from Patrick J. Bethel High School as salutatorian, carrying that dedication and excellence into her university studies, athletics and service to others.

The University community will continue to hold Dahphaney’s mother, family, friends, teammates, classmates and church family in our thoughts and prayers.

A memorial service will be held to celebrate Dahphaney’s life and legacy. On that day, the UB flag will be flown at half-mast in remembrance of a young woman who brought a beautiful sense of belonging wherever she went and will always be a cherished member of the UB family.

University of The Bahamas (UB) announces the appointment of Associate Professor Dr. Raquel Barr-Edgecombe as Interim Dean, Graduate Studies, effective immediately.

Dr. Barr-Edgecombe steps into this role at a pivotal time for the University, as UB works to strengthen graduate education, raise academic standards and open more doors for advanced learning in service of national development.

She succeeds Mrs. Remelda Moxey, who served UB with distinction for nearly three decades. Over the course of her career, Mrs. Moxey helped shape key areas of academic affairs and played a significant role in advancing the University's business, hospitality and tourism studies programmes, cultivating a strong academic community.

As Interim Dean, Dr. Barr-Edgecombe will lead the administration and continued growth of UB's graduate programmes. Her priorities will include strengthening programme quality and review, developing new graduate offerings that align with the University's strategic direction and the country's needs, growing graduate student recruitment and retention, and reinforcing the systems that help students progress and complete their degrees successfully.

What happens when curiosity meets a fascination for environmental and aerospace satellite engineering? Hands-on learning, innovation and students ready to explore what’s possible.

Over the summer, a group of UB students - guided by faculty - rolled up their sleeves to help assemble the technology laboratory at the Oakes Field Campus, home of hands-on learning for the Environmental and Aerospace Satellite Engineering (EASE) Programme.

With the Satellite Development track set to launch this September, students are already getting a head start on an experience that will take learning beyond the classroom and into the world of satellite technology.

Student-Athlete Found Unresponsive

University of The Bahamas is deeply saddened to confirm that a student-athlete was found unresponsive in a University dorm residence on Monday 31st August, 2026.

Initial CPR was administered and emergency personnel responded to the scene. The University is working with the appropriate authorities as the circumstances surrounding this incident are being investigated.

Grief counselling and support services are being arranged for members of the University community who are affected.

The University extends its profound condolences to the student’s family, friends, and teammates and we will continue to provide the support needed during this very difficult situation.

If you see an advertisement claiming to represent UB, please verify it through the University’s official channels before taking any action.
