The Work Ahead
When the House of Assembly re-convenes on May 20th, the eight members of the Official Opposition will be prepared to hold the new administration accountable and to carefully examine and debate its first budget on behalf of the Bahamian people.
Two days before, on Monday, 18 May 2026, at 10:00 am, Michael C. Pintard will be sworn in as Leader of His Majesty’s Loyal Opposition.
This decision follows a transparent and democratic consultation process with multiple bodies of the Free National Movement held at Mr Pintard’s request.
On Wednesday, 13 May 2026, the leadership of the elected officers of the FNM, the Executive Committee, the Central Council and newly elected FNM members met to openly determine whether he should continue serving as Leader following the election result.
Mr. Pintard was unanimously endorsed to remain in this post.
From start to finish, the renewal process of the Free National Movement will be democratic, disciplined and deliberate. Over the next several months, we will undertake a fulsome post-mortem that engages even more of our members, supporters, and the wider Bahamian public, and will rightly include a full national party convention.
The Free National Movement has faced setbacks before. The work ahead will make us a stronger party, and a better voice for the Bahamian people.
