MOMENTUM 2026 is coming to The Bahamas and University of The Bahamas is the host site, bringing together leaders to rethink and expand nonprofit governance models.
Presented by Creative Evolutions in partnership with Theatre Communications Group and universities across the United States, this rolling summer conference places higher education at the center of the conversation—both as hosts and as active collaborators shaping the future of board and leadership structures.
The 2026 theme, "Expanding Options for Board Models,” reflects a growing movement toward governance systems that better reflect evolving community needs, lived experience, and organizational innovation. The question being tackled is: "What else could a board look like?"
UB President Dr. Robert J. Blaine III, shares:
“The Bahamas has one of the richest, deepest, and most expansive cultures. To invest in the sustainability and future of cultural growth, organizations need the structures, support and capacity to carry it forward. MOMENTUM supports organizations in being innovative in their structuring.”
A key part of the series will be hosted at UB's Oakes Field Campus on 14th and 15th July, bringing students, faculty, practitioners, and non-profit professionals in Nassau to engage directly in this global dialogue.
Calida Jones, Co-Founder of Creative Evolutions, notes: “Innovation that makes impactful change is rarely a top-down activity. It begins in local communities. It activates with local leaders who understand the fabric and texture of their region, the lived experiences, the history in the room, the tensions, the assets, and the relationships that make change possible.”
Across all sites, each convening will bring together 100–200 participants, with insights and materials documented into a publicly accessible sourcebook of governance models and strategies.

At University of The Bahamas North Commencement Ceremony, commencement speaker Coach Yolett McPhee-McCuin delivered a powerful reminder that success is not built on perfection, but on perseverance.
Reflecting on her own journey, she shared that she has experienced many failures, many highs and lows, and moments that caused her to question her worth. Yet through it all, she learned the enduring power of gratitude, resilience, purpose, hard work, empathy, the strength of a village that refuses to let her walk alone and a God who is faithful.
Her message to the Class of 2026 was clear: today, we celebrate a degree, but what we are really celebrating is the journey.
She challenged graduates to first honour the journey: the struggles, sacrifices, professors, family members, mentors, and friends who helped make this moment possible. "There are no wins without struggle," she reminded them. "Before you honour tomorrow, honour today."
Second, she encouraged graduates to answer the call of the future. "The future doesn't ask if you're capable; it asks if you're willing." Whether opportunities seem big or small, she urged graduates to embrace them with courage, confidence, and an open heart. "If there is an invitation, take it."
Finally, she reminded the Class of 2026 that success is not measured by what you get, but by what you give. Talent alone is never enough; true success comes through service, generosity, and a willingness to lift others as you climb.
As our graduates prepare to write the next chapter of their stories, Coach McCuin left them with a powerful truth:
"Everything you've been through has prepared you for what you will go through."
Class of 2026, do not let fear answer the call meant for you. Do not let doubt or detractors define your future. You are not a product of your past, you are a promise of your future.
Congratulations, graduates. The future is calling. Go forward with courage, purpose, and the confidence to become all you were created to be.

Some journeys are measured not by the distance travelled, but by the obstacles overcome.
Today, University of The Bahamas proudly celebrates the graduating Class of 2026 at UB North, a class that has become a living testament to resilience, determination, and unwavering hope.
These 29 graduates have faced challenges that few classes before them could imagine. They endured the devastation of Hurricane Dorian, witnessed their communities rebuild, navigated the uncertainty of a global pandemic, adapted to new ways of learning, and persevered through circumstances beyond their control. Yet through every setback, they chose to keep moving forward.
They refused to allow adversity to define them.
Instead, they allowed it to shape them.
The storms they weathered taught them strength. The uncertainty they experienced cultivated adaptability. The challenges they encountered revealed a resilience they may not have known they possessed.
Today, we honour the journey that shaped them and celebrate the future that calls them.
As they cross the commencement stage, they do so carrying more than degrees. They carry lessons in courage, perseverance, sacrifice, and faith. They carry the hopes of families, communities, and a nation that has watched them rise above every challenge placed before them.
To the UB North Class of 2026: Your story is proof that circumstances do not determine destiny. Your journey reminds us that success is not defined by the absence of obstacles, but by the courage to overcome them.
May you continue to answer the future with confidence, purpose, and excellence.
Congratulations, graduates. The world awaits the impact only you can make.

Today was a day of celebration at the UB North Teachers Commissioning and Awards Ceremony as we honoured our newest educators and recognized our highest academic achievers.
Guest Speaker Mr. Mitchell Thurston reminded graduands that while today is a significant milestone, it may not be their greatest achievement. As they stand at the intersection of dreams, ambition, and a measure of uncertainty, they were encouraged to remember that success often belongs to those who continue moving forward even when the path ahead is not entirely clear.
In a stirring call to service, he challenged graduates to invest their talents in building The Bahamas, noting that if every educated Bahamian leaves to build someone else's country, we may never become the nation we dream of being. He urged them to embrace the spirit of leadership by focusing not on what career they choose, but on who will be better because they chose it.
Highlighting the enduring value of integrity, character, discipline, work ethic, and compassion, Mr. Thurston reminded graduates that these are qualities no machine can ever replace. He also shared an important truth: failure is not the opposite of success; failure is part of success, and sometimes part of God's plan for our lives.
As our graduates prepare to embrace the future that calls them, they were encouraged to remember three important lessons:
1. Never forget the journey and the people who helped you along the way. Stay humble.
2. Never stop learning. Remain curious, teachable, and willing to grow.
3. Never underestimate the impact you may have on someone else's life.
"The future is not something that happens to us; it is something we create."
Congratulations to our newly commissioned teachers and award recipients. May you answer the future with courage, excellence, and purpose.
