📚 Celebrating Literacy at HIAAS! 📚

As we continue to highlight the importance of literacy, we are proud to share a special literacy video created by Sandiana Jean-Baptiste, our Summer Reading Challenge Winner. Sandiana continues to demonstrate that reading can inspire creativity, confidence, and a love for learning.

We were also pleased to hear from Camyra Curtis, our Grade 11 Prefect and E. Clement Bethel National Arts Festival National Winner, who delivered a brief address reminding our students of the importance of literacy and the opportunities that strong reading and communication skills can create.

📚 International Literacy Day at Harbour Island All Age School 📚

Today, Harbour Island All Age School celebrated International Literacy Day with a special assembly highlighting the power of reading and the many places a good book can take us.
Our guest speaker, Camyra Curtis, encouraged our Cougars with a memorable phrase of her own:

“A book a day keeps the bad grades away!” 📖✨
We were also proud to highlight Sandianna Jean-Baptiste, who shared with students about the importance of reading and successfully completed the Grade 10 Summer Reading Book Challenge. Sandianna read a number of books over the summer, including Animal Farm and Divergent, and went above and beyond by creating an impressive storyboard chronicling her reading adventures.

She also presented her reading portfolio and created a video demonstrating where reading can take you—reminding us that books can broaden our perspectives, strengthen our minds and open doors to endless possibilities.
Our younger Preschool Cougars benefitted from being read to by Ms. Mortimer from the NIB. They also joined in the celebration as the love of literacy was promoted throughout the school with our word of the week for primary school "Discover" and for High School "Empower".
At HIAAS, we continue to encourage every student to read, imagine, explore and grow as we live out this year’s theme:

Some of our Young Men of Honor helped make Ms. Johnson’s birthday extra special yesterday by serenading her with a heartfelt rendition of “Happy Birthday!” 🎶🎉💙
We love seeing our young Cougars demonstrate kindness, confidence, respect, and school spirit in such a meaningful way.
Happy Birthday once again, Ms. Johnson! We hope your day was filled with joy, love, and wonderful memories. 🎂🥳

Harbour Island All Age School extends heartfelt appreciation and best wishes to several members of our school family as they begin new chapters. 💙🐾

We celebrate Ms. Elizabeth Davis on her retirement and sincerely thank Ms. Catalyn and Mr. Curtis, our supply teachers, for their love for the Harbour Island school community and for returning to serve our children when needed. We also wish Ms. Heber Adderley, English Language Teacher, and Mrs. Tesheria Bellot, Religious Studies Teacher, every success in their new postings.

Your service, commitment, and contributions have made a lasting impact on our students and school community. You will all be surely missed, but always remembered as part of the HIAAS family.

Harbour Island All Age School is ROARING WITH PRIDE as we celebrate one of our outstanding Cougars, Camyra! 🐾💙
Camyra continues to distinguish herself through excellence in academics, the arts, leadership, and service. She earned the title of National Winner in Drama at the National Arts Festival and also received Honors in Singing. Her commitment to academic excellence was equally impressive, as she achieved the Most Outstanding Performance internally on the 2026 BJC Examinations and was named to the Summer Term Principal’s List.
As an incoming prefect, Camyra also demonstrates leadership beyond the classroom. She is actively involved in SCM, Young Life, Nurses Cadets, Young Commissioners, Junior Achievers, Junior Local Government, and Girl Guides.
With future career interests in Pathology, Biotechnology, and Radiology, Camyra is already showing the curiosity, discipline, creativity, and ambition needed to make a meaningful impact.
Camyra, your HIAAS family celebrates you and all that you have accomplished. Continue to dream boldly, work diligently, and represent Cougar Pride wherever you go.

Harbour Island All Age School extends sincere appreciation to our community partners for their continued support in improving the safety and appearance of our school environment.

Special thanks are extended to Valentine’s Resort and Marina and Ms. Cushman for their support of the crosswalk project. We also acknowledge Chief Councillor Harvey Roberts, whose efforts were instrumental in bringing this important initiative to fruition.

We are equally grateful to The Dunmore for creating the pebbled walkway and turnaround area, providing a safer route for our students travelling to and from school.

Special appreciation is also extended to Mr. Darrell Johnson Sr. for assisting with garbage collection, particularly with the larger items and with landscaping the school grounds.

Parents and guardians, please encourage your children to use the crosswalk and remain on the designated walkway when travelling to and from school.

Together, we are creating a safer path for every Cougar. Safety is everyone’s business! 💙🐾
