Bachata is a musical and dance genre that originated in the Dominican Republic during the 1960s, with roots in rural areas and poor neighborhoods, being a mixture of rhythmic bolero with influences from sound, cha-chá-chá and tango. Initially marginalized and associated with poverty, bachata evolved to become a popular romantic rhythm worldwide.
