PEACE DAY AT EARJ 🕊️💙

Last week, our Gávea and Barra communities came together to reflect on the meaning of peace, kindness, and empathy.

At Barra, Lower School held its first special events assembly of the year, led by Mr. Leo and Panther Leaders from Grades 2–5. Students explored what peace looks like in action, and the Upper School Band joined the celebration with two special performances, bringing the community together through music.
At Gávea, students showed their spirit by wearing white as a symbol of peace, kindness, and harmony, and spent time working on creative projects centered around the spirit day theme.
Across both campuses, Peace Day created an opportunity for our students to reflect on how cooperation, empathy, and everyday actions can help build a more peaceful community.

Together, our Panthers showed that peace starts with each of us. 💙

Meet our new Lower School Panther Ambassadors!

Students from Grades 3–5 across both campuses are stepping into an exciting new leadership role, helping welcome new and prospective families, hosting visiting shadow students, and sharing what makes the EARJ community so special.

Along the way, they’re building confidence, strengthening their communication and public speaking skills, and experiencing what it means to lead with pride and purpose.

Our Panther Ambassadors took on their very first assignment in August, welcoming prospective families during our Campus Visit Events. We couldn’t be prouder of the Panther spirit they brought to the experience.

College and Careers Counseling plays an important role throughout the high school experience at EARJ.

From Grade 9 through 12, students receive guidance that evolves according to the needs and objectives of each stage, from early career exploration to the college application process.

Coming back to EARJ after so many years brings a new perspective on the experiences that stay with us long after graduation.

Last year, Barra campus student Charlotte U., Grade 12, joined EARJ’s OxfordMUN & UK University Experience, connecting with students from around the world while exploring universities in London and Oxford.

For Charlotte, the experience went beyond the conference. Visiting universities, speaking with professors, and getting a glimpse of student life helped her better understand where she could see herself studying in the future.

This year, a new group of EARJ students will have the opportunity to experience it for themselves. From November 19–30, the UK University Experience combines OxfordMUN with university visits across the UK.

WHO WE ARE: IDENTITY, HERITAGE & BELONGING 🌎💙

Who we are shapes how we connect with others and the world around us.

Across our Gávea and Barra campuses, Grade 1 students explored identity, heritage, inclusion, and belonging as part of their Who We Are Unit of Inquiry.

At Gávea, Heritage and Heirlooms brought families into the learning experience, with parent volunteers sharing their backgrounds, traditions, and family heritage with students. At Barra, students explored what makes each of us unique while reflecting on inclusion and what it means to belong to a community.

Through different experiences across both campuses, students had the opportunity to learn more about themselves, one another, and the diverse community that makes up EARJ. 💙🌎

This November, EARJ students will have the opportunity to take their learning beyond the classroom, all the way to the UK.

From November 19-30, the OxfordMUN 2026 & UK University Experience will combine university visits across London, Cambridge, and Oxford with the opportunity to participate in OxfordMUN alongside delegates from 89 schools across 32 countries.

And who better to share what the experience is really like than someone who has already lived it?

Last year, Orla Fitzgerald, Grade 11, joined the trip and experienced everything from exploring UK universities to debating at OxfordMUN, connecting with students from around the world, and putting her public-speaking skills into practice.

Now, she shares what stood out from the experience and why she encourages other students to take the opportunity.

BRAZILIAN INDEPENDENCE DAY 🇧🇷

Across our Gávea and Barra campuses, Brazilian Independence Day was more than a date on the calendar—it was a chance to bring history, culture, and learning to life!

Throughout the week, our Lower School community explored this vital chapter of history through age-appropriate activities, while our Upper School joined in with interactive history games organized by the Portuguese Honor Society. Everyone showed their school pride on Spirit Day by wearing the green, yellow, and blue of the Brazilian flag.

At our Gávea campus, the celebrations culminated in a powerful assembly featuring the raising of the Brazilian flag, the National Anthem, and a special Jogral da Independência presented by Grade 4!

Our students spent the week connecting with the history and vibrant culture of the country we call home. 🇧🇷💙

At Escola Americana do Rio de Janeiro’s Preschool Experience Day, families are invited to experience our international environment, educational approach, and a learning journey that encourages curiosity, critical thinking, and development from the very beginning.

While children take part in activities specially designed for them, parents and guardians will have the opportunity to learn more about the EARJ experience and discover what makes our community a place to learn, grow, and go beyond borders.
