Our Grade 11 and 12 IB Diploma students stepped out of the classroom for an immersive, interdisciplinary science project at PUC-Rio.
Through an interdisciplinary circuit along the Rainha River that runs through the university campus, they explored: 🏛️ Architecture: Landscapes as social constructs 🐟 Biology: Aquatic Bioindicators 🌊 Physics: Hydrodynamics 🧪 Chemistry & Geography: Microplastics and river revitalization
It was a fantastic opportunity to see how different disciplines work together to solve complex environmental issues. A huge thank you to the team at PUC-Rio for this collaboration!

Our annual Workers Appreciation Barbecue brought our community together to recognize and celebrate the staff members who work behind the scenes to support our school every day.

Seeing the joy shared among our staff and their families made this celebration truly meaningful.

EARJ hosted its first inter-school music festival, welcoming students from Our Lady of Mercy (OLM) and The British School (TBS) to perform alongside our own bands.
The EARJ Open Music Festival is a student-led initiative, organized by student Santiago H. with members of the Music Club as part of a CAS Project, and supported by Mr. Luiz, Upper School Music Teacher. The event was created with the goal of building a lasting impact within our community and the vision of becoming an annual tradition.
Bringing together young musicians from different schools, the festival celebrated collaboration, creativity, and the shared experience of music-making on campus.
Seeing our students share their work with confidence made this showcase a memorable moment for everyone involved. Thank you to our families for being part of this experience.

🎓 Alumni Voices — Episode 3: André Schweizer

In this episode of Alumni Voices, we share the inspiring journey of André Schweizer (Class of 2016). His path took him to renowned institutions such as Northwestern University, where he earned a Master of Science in Transportation Systems Analysis & Planning, and later to MIT Sloan School of Management for his MBA. Along the way, the IB Diploma earned at EARJ played a meaningful role — opening doors to opportunities and scholarships

Today, André is an Associate at McKinsey & Company, carrying forward the values he built as a student at EARJ. His journey is a powerful reminder that the impact of an EARJ education extends far beyond graduation — shaping global citizens.

André looks back on his years at EARJ as a defining chapter of his life — the place that most shaped who he is today. It was here that he developed a global mindset, the confidence to navigate different cultures, and the academic foundation that prepared him for the world beyond our campuses.

A Panther whose story reflects the power of academic excellence, diversity, sense of community, and the lifelong impact of Escola Americana do Rio de Janeiro.

Our Middle School students took the stage across both campuses to share the results of months of rehearsal, collaboration, and storytelling.
At Barra, Grade 6 students presented Girls Alone, a thoughtful performance exploring friendship through expressive and truthful characters.
Grade 8 students followed with Peter Pan, bringing Neverland to life in a lively production that combined theater and the Middle School band, celebrating imagination, teamwork, and adventure.
At Gávea, students performed She Wrote, Died, Then Wrote Some More, a Middle School theater piece that showcased creativity, humor, and a strong narrative voice.
Each performance reflected students’ dedication to the arts and their growth on and off the stage.
Congratulations to all our young performers and teachers for these memorable presentations.

Big milestones for our littlest learners!
Our Nursery, Pre-K, and Kindergarten students shined bright during their End of Year presentations. It was incredible to see how they brought their Units of Inquiry to life! 🧩
Guided by the PYP framework, our students have been busy over the last few months exploring deep topics. Last week, they showcased everything they learned in very creative presentations! We are so proud of them!
Thank you to all the families who joined us. It was a day filled with fun, joy, and so much emotion!

The Upper School Arts & Design departments from both campuses invited the EARJ community to celebrate student achievements this semester with a series of events held from November 24 to December 2.
This year’s festival took over new spaces on campus, with performances held after school and throughout the day. Highlights included activities inside classrooms, PSAs on the HS TV, and exhibitions in the Learning Commons and near the Auditorium.
From visual arts and design projects to short films, drama and music, students showcased the creativity and initiative that drive their learning. Thank you to everyone who joined us in celebrating our Upper School artists and designers!

Our Middle School students are back from Uruguay after an incredible Friendship Tournament hosted by the American School of Montevideo!
Our boys’ and girls’ teams hit the field and court for friendly soccer and volleyball, but the trip went far beyond the competition. Our Panthers stayed with Uruguayan host families, immersing themselves in local traditions and experiencing a warm sense of community that sparked personal growth and independence.
Over two days of friendship games, our students focused on participation, teamwork and respect while building international connections and representing EARJ with pride and sportsmanship. Way to go, Panthers!
