Alguns "phrasal verbs" são separáveis enquanto outros são inseparáveis, isso quer dizer, que os separáveis pode-se colocar o objeto entre o verbo e a partícula, enquanto que os inseparáveis não se pode fazer isto, exemplo:
ask out (separável) - ex: I will ask somebody out
act up (inseparável) - ex: the children acted up all evening
VERBO - Act up / SIGNIFICADO - Comportar-se mal, não funcionar como deveria / TIPO - inseparável / EXEMPLO - The babysitter had a difficult time, the children acted up all evening.
V. - Add (something) up/ S. - Somar, Calcular/ T. - Separável/ E. - Add up all the money I owe you.
V.- Ask around/ S.- Fazer a mesma pergunta a várias pessoas/T. - Inseparável/ E. - I asked around but nobody has seen my purse.
V. - Ask (somebody) out/ S. - Convidar alguém para sair/ T. - Separável/ E. - He asked her out last night.
V. - Blow up/ S. - Explodir (bomba, etc), estourar, (tempestade, escândalo, crise, guerra etc.) perder a paciência./ T. - Inseparável/ E. - There was a huge bang as the fuel tank blew up.
V. Blow (something) up/ S. - Demolir algo, encher (balão, pneu etc.) ampliar (foto). /T. Separável/ E. - They threatened to blow the building up.
V.Break down/ S. - Quebrar, parar de funcionar/ T. - Inseparável/ E. - Our car broke down on the road.
V. Break up/ S. - Separar-se, terminar um relacionamento, uma parceria./ T. - Inseparável/ E. - They broke up four years ago.
V.Bring (somebody) up/ S.- Criar alguém/ T. - Separável/ E. - She brought six children up.
V.Call back / Call (somebody) back / S. - Ligar novamente, retornar uma ligação./ T. - Separável/ E. - She said she´d call you back.
