of my parents rocking the 80s city slicker look 🤩😎! Thanks for posting. I love this pic.

These two were the first to make it to university in their families and it’s amazing to think how many opportunities they opened up for us in doing that.

In physics, friction really robs a system of momentum & kinetic energy.
Currently applying this principle in my life as I embrace life’s constant moving pieces.
As I orient my own system towards less friction, turns out the momentum can be pretty freeing!
This metaphor totally makes sense to me right now btw! 😊!

As Maya nears her 3rd birthday I totally get what parents say about missing the baby phase.
They’re just so squidgy!
Not to mention the feeling of being able to protect her completely in my arms.
Miss you baby Maya.

Pausing. Noticing.

I love getting stuff done. It helps me feel like I’m moving forward. Whatever that means...it can be addictive.

If there’s a lot of restless energy around at this time, I hope you can find ways to take a break. Pause. Notice. Maybe all the movement you need today is a self-massage.

Do you know always move away from and towards the same stuff?

Or do you decide? How do you decide?

For me, in this dance of moving away and towards people, things, experiences...the more I’ve noticed how it feels in the body, the more I know when to be led and when to choreograph my own steps.

Day 10

Expanding and Contracting

Today half of the world expands into longer days, the other half into shorter ones. This pattern repeats itself in nature and in us...again and again.

Recognising our own impulses towards contraction and expansion is a useful skill.

For me it really just helps understand and honour what is going. It also helps clarify what needs to happen in the body when we’re ready to shift!

Moving into Stillness.
At the end of a yoga asana practice we take savasana. At the end of a typical 5 rhythms wave dance we come into stillness.

We move into a field of rest and awareness. And for me this is where it’s really all happening. It’s the stillness that contains everything. Both encompassing and beyond all the noise. Some might call it pure bliss. I find it hard to describe in words...it’s a glimpse of dissolving into nothing and everything.

Whether that makes sense for you reading this or not...I love how movement can support stillness. And I hope you can all find some at the end of this year. 💚

Day 5: Moving Together. I asked my sister to do a simple mirroring exercise with me for this post. She was working, didn’t want to break and came...very reluctantly.

We had a little warm up before this clip and in a few seconds I found her energy and mine shifted. Once she moved through some discomfort, it got really fun!

When we move together, we bond, experience being seen, being validated, build trust, find a sense of playfulness. It’s like speaking a totally new language. Our mirror neurones start to fire and we find a kind of wireless connection of our brains and body.

There’s plenty of science to back this up. Negotiators, performers, master facilitators and salespeople also know this to be very true.

I personally love to do this with groups who want to be in a more easeful and collaborative state of mind, who want to plan and create together. It is also a way to foster deeper connection. Beyond the purely cognitive realm. To have fun.

In a year where so many of us have felt alone and isolated, this has been such a welcome practice in the groups I’ve worked with.

Here’s to more moving together, whether you’re doing it professionally or just for the fun of it!

Thanks for playing
