Twelve years ago today, I was defending my master's thesis in English Literature before a defense panel. What started on a whim—an idea that came to me on my way back from a trip—turned into one of the most fulfilling experiences of my life. I made wonderful friends whom I cherish to this day, took incredible classes on one of my favorite subjects—literature—and challenged myself with extensive research, countless hours of reading, and watching the same film over and over again. My thesis explored the adaptation of a Jane Austen novel into film, and in the process, I wrote 200 pages—all while teaching full time.
Most of my classmates were undoubtedly more clever than me. But no one was more focused and dedicated, and that made all the difference. In the end, all the effort paid off. My thesis defense went much smoother than I could have ever imagined—I felt completely at ease presenting my work and was rewarded with an A+. My biggest takeaway? Don’t compare yourself to others. If you truly dedicate yourself to something, you will get there!
The same lesson applies to learning a language. You might not feel like the most "naturally talented" learner, but dedication always pays off. Progress happens at your own pace, and comparing yourself to others will only hold you back. Instead, embrace the journey — you might find joy in unexpected places along the way!

Many learners believe that fluency means knowing every single word in English—but that’s not true! Even native speakers don’t know every word in their own language. 🤯
💡 Fluency and proficiency are NOT the same!
✅ Fluency = The ability to communicate smoothly and naturally, even if you don’t know every word.
✅ Proficiency = A deeper, more advanced knowledge of the language, including complex vocabulary and grammar.
You don’t need to be 100% proficient to be fluent! If you can express yourself, understand context, and keep a conversation going without constantly stopping, congratulations—you’re fluent! 🎉
🔹 Have you ever been stuck on a word while speaking? What did you do? Let me know in the comments!

Our March read is here!
This month we are going to read "The boy in the striped pyjamas", by John Boyne, which takes place during World War II.
The whole book is told through the prespective of an 8-year-old boy and we are able to see the world through his innocent eyes.
A beautiful, touching (and sad) book!
I'm sure you'll enjoy it!

Ever heard words like teeny tiny, easy peasy, or okey dokey and wondered why they sound so catchy? 🤔
This is called reduplication, a fun linguistic trick where parts of a word are repeated with slight changes in sound. It makes speech more playful and expressive!

A binomial is a fixed expression made up of two parts, usually joined by "and" or "or." These phrases are a unique part of the English language and often carry meanings that go beyond the individual words. 🌟
Understanding binomials is a great way to sound more natural and fluent in everyday conversations!
Do you know any other binomials?
