Bolo de estudante (student's cake) More street food from San Salvador. This one is called students' cake because it's cheap to make and students are known to not have very much money.

It's made from tapioca paste an deep-fried. Then it's rolled in cinnamon sugar. It's pretty good, but sticky.

Acarajé: The native fast food of Salvador da Bahia. The "bun" is made from black-eye pea paste and deep fried in palm oil. It has an interesting flavor, but it's heavy.

Tapioca tortillas! They're very, very tasty. My maē puts butter on them, but today for breakfast--last picture--she smothered it with condensed milk. It tastes like a thick and somewhat crunchy crepe. In Salvador, I've seen them stuffed with meat and veggies--much like a taco.
