RE: FALSE AND MISLEADING REPORT ON THE STUDENTS’ PEACEFUL PROTEST

The Executives of the Federation of Ifon Orolu Students (FIOS) National Headquarters have observed with concern a misleading publication circulated by certain media outlets, including Osogbo Updates and Ogbeni Olomitutu, with the headline: “Youths and students of Ifon-Orolu staged a peaceful protest against the lawmaker representing Irepodun/Orolu/Olorunda/Osogbo Federal Constituency at the House of Representatives, Hon. (Dr.) Adewale Morufu Adebayo GANGARIA.”

For the sake of clarity and proper public understanding, we wish to unequivocally state that the peaceful protest in question was not staged solely by youths and students of Ifon-Orolu as portrayed in the reports. The protest was jointly organized by students’ unions and stakeholders across the entire Irepodun/Orolu/Olorunda/Osogbo Federal Constituency under a collective students’ platform which comprises the National Association of Osun State Students (NAOSS), Osogbo National Students’ Union (ONSU), Federation of Ifon Orolu Students (FIOS), Ilobu National Students’ Union (INSU) and the Federation of Erin-Osun Students’ Association (FESA).

The peaceful demonstration, led by the National President of NAOSS, was aimed at drawing the attention of the Honourable member representing the constituency, Hon. (Dr.) Adewale Morufu Adebayo GANGARIA, to pressing student-related concerns affecting students and youths across the constituency. These concerns include the need for stronger engagement with student bodies, educational support initiatives, scholarship opportunities, empowerment programmes and broader youth development interventions which students across the constituency believe require urgent attention.

We further wish to clearly debunk and dismiss any insinuation or claim that the protest was politically motivated, politically sponsored, or influenced by any political group or interest. The protest was purely a democratic and peaceful expression of students’ concerns and aspirations, carried out within the constitutional rights of the students’ bodies involved. At no point was the action intended to attack personalities or serve any political agenda.

FIOS NHQS remains committed to promoting peace, constructive engagement, responsible advocacy and meaningful dialogue in addressing issues affecting students and youths within our constituency. We therefore urge media organizations and members of the public to avoid misrepresentation of facts and ensure accurate reportage in matters relating to student affairs and community development.

The FIOS NHQS Executives appreciate all stakeholders who have continued to support peaceful democratic engagement and responsible leadership among students and youths.

*Orolu Local Government Chairman Sponsors 250 Students with Free JAMB Forms, Allocates 100 Slots to FIOS NHQS*

In a remarkable demonstration of his commitment to educational empowerment, the Executive Chairman of Orolu Local Government, Hon. Abolade Nurain, has facilitated free registration for 250 students for the upcoming Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board examination.

Out of the total beneficiaries, 100 registration slots were officially allocated to the Federation of Ifon Orolu Students (FIOS) National Headquarters, providing a significant opportunity for academically qualified but financially constrained students within Ifon Orolu to pursue their dreams of higher education. The remaining slots were equitably distributed among other communities across the Local Government Area to ensure broad-based inclusion.

The FIOS NHQS Executive, led by Hon. Comr. Kazeem Lukmon Olatunji, popularly known as Sir Symbol, expressed profound appreciation to the Chairman for his commitment to youth empowerment and academic development. According to him, the intervention has removed a major financial barrier for many students and has renewed hope among parents and guardians who had struggled to meet the cost of registration.
