Vanessa is the typical young woman of these days, always happy, always busy, always connected and always dreamy. However, she has endured a battle some time ago. She was diagnosed in her teen years with a mesencephalic diffuse astrocytoma, a benign tumor of the brainstem. The location of the tumor and its diffuse nature precluded a surgical treatment. Because of her age, she initially received chemotherapy. The lesion stabilized, but she had to struggle continuously with complications and neurological symptoms. More recently, she had radiation therapy to her brainstem in order to suppress the tumor. She is now free of treatment, but still carries a residual lesion. This is no obstacle to this brave young lady. She lives her life to the fullest. This month, she wants you to know that having a brain tumor is not the end of the world. She wants you to believe that one can have a life after it!

Vanessa é a típica jovem destes dias, sempre feliz, sempre ocupada, sempre conectada e sempre sonhadora. No entanto, ela sofreu uma batalha há algum tempo. Ela foi diagnosticada em sua adolescência com um astrocitoma difuso mesencefálico, um tumor benigno do tronco cerebral. A localização do tumor e sua natureza difusa impossibilitaram um tratamento cirúrgico. Por causa de sua idade, ela inicialmente recebeu quimioterapia. A lesão estabilizou, mas ela teve que lutar continuamente com complicações e sintomas neurológicos. Mais recentemente, ela fez radioterapia em seu tronco cerebral para suprimir o tumor. Ela agora está livre de tratamento, mas ainda carrega uma lesão residual. Isto não é obstáculo para esta jovem corajosa. Ela vive sua vida ao máximo. Este mês, ela quer que você saiba que ter um tumor no cérebro não é o fim do mundo. Ela quer que você acredite que pode ter uma vida plena depois disso!
