While attractive, these incentives often distract from the fact that excessive credit use can lead to long-term debt and financial instability.

A healthier approach would involve setting aside a fixed portion of income before spending — for example, allocating 50% for essential expenses, 25% for savings, and 25% for investments or a financial buffer. Such a strategy helps create stability for the coming months or even the next year, reducing reliance on credit.

However, in Brazil, the prevailing cultural habit is to spend first and save later. Combined with the constant stream of advertising and the perceived normality of debt, this behaviour reinforces the cycle of dependency on credit. Breaking this cycle requires both individual discipline and broader financial education, helping people view credit as a tool rather than a default way of life.
