Chuseok is a time to gather with family, give thanks, share food and traditions, and celebrate the bonds that connect generations. Often compared to Thanksgiving in the United States, it is one of Korea’s most meaningful holidays.

Today, we celebrate Chuseok with our Korean community at EAC, honoring the traditions, stories, and cultural heritage that are an important part of who we are as a school community.

With Giants from many backgrounds learning and growing together, our multicultural community is enriched by the traditions each family brings with them. We value the opportunity to learn from one another and celebrate what makes our community unique.

✨ After School Activities: Visual Arts

Our Elementary students explored color, light, and artistic expression in a different way during Visual Arts ASA, experimenting with black lights and neon colors to create vibrant works of art.

Through Visual Arts, students investigate a wide range of media and techniques while developing their own visual literacy and finding creative ways to communicate their ideas. From drawing and painting to collage and sculpture, the art-making process encourages students to experiment, think creatively, and discover new possibilities.

In a safe, caring, and respectful environment, each student’s ideas and individual expression are valued, helping them develop creative thinking and problem-solving skills that extend far beyond the art room.

🇯🇵 Ohayou from Preschool! Japan came to life during our latest Cultural Connections experience, as Preschoolers explored Japanese culture, traditions, food, sports, and familiar characters with the help of Preschool parent José and his daughter Eva.

From cherry blossoms, temples and shrines, kimono, origami, and maneki-neko to sushi, ramen, onigiri, and green tea, there was so much for our young learners to discover. They also learned about sports and martial arts that originated in Japan, including judo, karate, sumo, kendo, and aikido.

Our children were active participants throughout the experience, enthusiastically sharing what they already knew, answering questions, and making connections. Seeing José and Eva share their knowledge and passion for Japan together made the experience even more meaningful.

The experience also connected with learning across the Preschool, through stories, music, art, geography, language, and hands-on activities. Our Health and Nutrition program joined in as well, giving children the opportunity to explore and taste edamame as part of their connection to Japan.

Grade 4 students recently welcomed their families for a Learning Celebration, sharing what they have learned through their UOI Where We Are in Place and Time. Their inquiry focused on migration, from the different reasons people move to the ways migration can influence people and communities over time. Students also explored how maps and geography can help us understand movement and the connections between people and places.

As they presented their learning, students confidently explained their ideas and reflected on the connections they made throughout the unit. It was a wonderful way to bring their inquiry into migration together and celebrate all they have learned. 💚💛

Grade 5 students recently welcomed their families to celebrate the learning they developed throughout their UOI How We Organize Ourselves. Throughout the unit, students explored how communities are organized as systems and how the different roles, responsibilities, and decisions within them affect the people who are part of them.

Their learning began within their own school community, where students interviewed staff members from different EAC departments to better understand how our school functions. They then broadened their perspective to explore citizenship, rights and responsibilities, and civic participation, considering how individuals can contribute to the communities they belong to.

During the Learning Celebration, students shared their work and gave their families a glimpse into the questions, connections, and ideas they explored throughout the unit. 💚💛

Grade 1 students recently welcomed their families for their first Learning Celebration, sharing what they have been discovering through their UOI Who We Are. As they explored how our bodies help us learn, move, and grow, students investigated how different body parts work together and reflected on ways to care for their bodies and minds.

From understanding their bodies to developing mindfulness, perseverance, and self-management skills, students have been building a deeper awareness of themselves as learners. It was a wonderful opportunity to celebrate their learning and share their discoveries with their families. 💚💛

Today, our whole school community came together to celebrate the International Day of Peace, with Giants across all sections wearing white as a symbol of peace, kindness, and unity.

In Preschool, students gathered around the theme “Peace Begins With Us,” exploring how kindness, inclusion, helping and caring for others can be everyday ways of practicing peace.

During Toolbox Time, Elementary students reflected on what peace means and how peaceful choices can shape the way we live and learn together. They created feathers with their own hopes, wishes and messages about peace, bringing them together to create a shared Peace Dove.

Across our campus, the message was simple: peace begins with us, and it grows when we share it with others.

Grade 3 students recently welcomed their families for their first Learning Celebration, sharing their learning from the UOI Who We Are.

Through their inquiry into choices and decisions, students explored how the choices they make can affect their well-being, their relationships, and the world around them. They also developed strategies for mindfulness, emotional management, resilience, collaboration, and positive relationships.

It was a meaningful opportunity for students to reflect on their learning and proudly share it with the people who support them along the way. 💚💛

Our Grade 2 students celebrated the completion of their first Unit of Inquiry, Who We Are, with their families this morning.

During their Learning Celebration, students shared what they had been learning about communities, care, fairness, and working together. They also presented their class assembly, bringing their learning and collaboration together in a special morning with their families.

A joyful celebration of learning and growth with our Grade 2 Giants. 💚💛
