The Philosophy Department of the UFMG has a long tradition in studies and actions in Aesthetics (dating from 1969 with the creation of its “Laboratory of Aesthetics”) and since 1993 it has been involved in the organization of biannual large conferences on this matter, which attracts researchers and students from many countries and regions around the world. The last one, “Arts of the body, bodies of art” was held in October 2019 in the baroque town Ouro Preto — near Belo Horizonte — and was organized by ABRE in cooperation with the Federal University of Ouro Preto and the Federal University of Minas Gerais.

O Departamento de Filosofia da UFMG tem uma longa tradição em estudos e atividades voltados ao campo da estética (que se estende desde 1969 com a criação do seu "Laboratório de Estética"). Desde 1993 o departamento organiza grandes conferências bianuais dedicados à estética, o que atrai investigadores e estudantes de muitos países e regiões de todo o mundo. A última, intitulada "Artes do corpo, corpos de arte", realizou-se em Outubro de 2019, na cidade barroca de Ouro Preto - perto de Belo Horizonte - e foi organizada pela ABRE em cooperação com a Universidade Federal de Ouro Preto e a Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais.

Belo Horizonte is the capital of the state of Minas Gerais, located in the southeastern region of Brazil, and it holds the largest number of buildings of the Federal University of Minas Gerais. With over 2.5 million inhabitants in an area of approximately 330 km², the city is a place of national influence when it comes to culture and intellectual production.

Miško Šuvaković

Miodrag Šuvaković publishes under the name Miško Šuvaković. He received his PhD from the Faculty of Fine Arts at the University of Art in Belgrade in 1993. He has been professor of applied aesthetics, Faculty of Music in Belgrade (1996-2015). Šuvaković is professor of applied aesthetics & theory of art and media, Faculty for Media and Communications, Belgrade, He is member of Slovenian Society of Aesthetics and the Society for Aesthetics of Architecture and Visual Arts Serbia, as well as President of the International Association for Aesthetics. He has published or edited 50 books in Serbian, Slovenian, Croatian and English. His most important books are Impossible Histories – Historical Avant-gardes, Neo-avant-gardes, and Post-avant-gardes in Yugoslavia, 1918-1991 (co-editor with Dubravka Đurić, Cambridge MA: The MIT Press, 2003, 2006) and Neo-Aesthetic Theory Complexity and Complicity Must Be Defended (Hollitzer, Vienna, 2017).
