13th-15th January 2024 - The Ministry of Education, through the Brunei Darussalam Leadership and Teacher Academy (BDLTA), held 3 training sessions entitled “Teaching Content Dialogically: What Questions Do Teachers Ask?”
Three groups of Educator Professional Support (EPS) Program participants, totaling 87 attendees, participated in the training session conducted by Cikgu Hajah Nor Irniwati Hj Ismail, Lead Trainer at the Teachers Unit, BDLTA. The training session aimed to explore and improve teachers’ questioning approaches to create a more engaging and reflective learning environment. It identified different types of questions commonly used by teachers, ranging from closed testing questions to more open-ended genuine inquiry questions. The goal was to encourage educators to move away from ineffective question types like leading or rhetorical questions and instead foster genuine dialogue and critical thinking among students.
This program, led by Cikgu Mohamad Sahrol Faizan bin Haji Ali, aims to enhance the professional development of teachers in primary and secondary schools by offering continuous, high-quality learning modules. The focus is on improving the quality of teaching and learning in classrooms. Participants are encouraged to implement what they learn in their classrooms, with support from EPS mentors. Additionally, the program aims to build the capacity of mentors involved in the initiative. Among the EPS participants are Subject Teachers, Heads of Subjects (Departments), Senior Masters/Mistresses, School Management Team members, and BTS-TPA Moderators.
