Training done.
But the real work has just begun.
Over these few days, I was reminded that helping isn’t about having the right answers, it’s about showing up with presence, humility, and boundaries.
What stood out about this group of officers and lecturers from Politeknik Brunei was their depth and courage to share. Different academic backgrounds, different experiences yet united by one intention: to listen better and support students more safely.
The interventions were real. The conversations were honest. Many in this group are emotionally attuned, aware, reflective, present. These are exactly the qualities needed for first-line support and paracounselling, when guided with clarity and ethics.
They didn’t come to “fix” students. They came to humanise support to hold space, recognise limits, and refer responsibly.
This is EMPOWERIOR’s niche. Strengthening institutions by strengthening people. Conversations like these give me hope that student wellbeing can be humanised, one safe student at a time.
