3 June 2026 – UTB reaffirmed its commitment to regional collaboration and academic diplomacy through the participation of Yang Mulia Dr Hjh Mas Ayu Kartika Dewi binti Hj Mumin, Assistant Professor from the Centre for Communication, Teaching and Learning (CCTL), at a series of high-level events held in Xiamen, China on 30 May 2026.
 
The day’s engagements began with the official opening ceremony of the NCA Xiamen Summit on Global Communication and Global Governance, where Dr Hjh Mas Ayu Kartika Dewi was invited to represent CCTL, UTB. She joined distinguished international guests on stage to press the ceremonial launch button for the Student Brand Advertising Festival, marking the official commencement of the initiative aimed at nurturing the next generation of communication professionals.
 
In the afternoon session, Dr Hjh Mas Ayu Kartika Dewi delivered a keynote address titled “Building Regional Academic Ecosystems” at the Second China–ASEAN Conference on Future Journalism and Communication Education. Held under the theme “Beyond Borders: Regional Dialogue in the Context of Global Communication,” the conference brought together educators, researchers, and industry leaders from across the ASEAN region and China. Her address explored strategies for strengthening academic networks, fostering cross-border collaboration, and developing sustainable partnerships to shape the future of journalism and communication education in the region.

3 June 2026 - UTB today held a Welcoming and Farewell Session to officially welcome newly appointed academic staff members and bid farewell to a departing staff member. The event was attended by Yang Mulia Datin Paduka Professor Dr Dayang Hajah Zohrah binti Haji Sulaiman, Vice-Chancellor of UTB, together with Principal Officers and staff members.

The session served as an opportunity to introduce the new members of the UTB community and acknowledge the contributions of staff who have completed their service with the University.

UTB welcomed seven new academic staff members:
* Dr Chin Wan Han Wuen, Lecturer, UTB School of Business;
* Dr Siti Nurul Syahirah binti Muhammad Basheer, Lecturer, UTB School of Business;
* Dr Reena Kumari Vijayakumaran, Assistant Professor, School of Applied Sciences and Mathematics;
* Dr Nur Afiqah Wajihah Syahindah binti Haji Marali, Lecturer, School of Applied Sciences and Mathematics;
* Dr Siti Salwa Isa, Assistant Professor, School of Design;
* Norhafilah binti Amin, Assistant Lecturer, School of Design; and
* Professor Dr Mokhtar Awang, Professor, Mechanical Engineering, Faculty of Engineering.

The University also expressed its appreciation to Norerni Irwani binti Mohamad Niah, SKiPPA Executive Officer under the Enterprise Office, for her dedication and valuable contributions during her tenure at UTB.

The Welcoming and Farewell Session reflects UTB’s commitment to fostering a supportive and inclusive working environment while recognising the contributions of its staff in driving the University’s continued growth and excellence.

3 June 2026 - Universiti Teknologi Brunei (UTB) welcomed a delegation from the Centre of Science and Technology Research and Development (CSTRAD), Ministry of Defence, during a courtesy visit held at the Amethyst Room, UTB.

The delegation was led by Yang Mulia Nor Masitirena binti Hj Suhaini, Director of CSTRAD. She was accompanied by Yang Mulia Hasrinah binti Matyassin, Assistant Director of CSTRAD; Yang Mulia Chan Le Theing, Head of Research of CSTRAD; and Yang Mulia Nuramanina binti Hamdani, Assistant Research Officer of CSTRAD.

They were welcomed by Yang Mulia Datin Paduka Professor Dr Dayang Hajah Zohrah binti Hj Sulaiman, Vice-Chancellor of UTB; Yang Mulia Associate Professor Pg Dr Mohamad Iskandar bin Pg Hj Petra, Acting Deputy Vice-Chancellor; Yang Mulia Dr Mohammad Saiful bin Hj Omar, Assistant Vice-Chancellor (External & Industry Relations); Yang Mulia Dr Mohamed Hasnain Isa, Assistant Vice-Chancellor (Research and Innovation); Yang Mulia Dr Fadzliwati binti Mohiddin, Director of Corporate Communications Office (CCO).

The visit provided an opportunity for both institutions to strengthen existing ties and explore potential avenues for collaboration in areas of mutual interest, particularly in science and technology research, innovation, capacity building, and knowledge exchange. Discussions also highlighted opportunities to leverage expertise and resources to support national priorities and contribute towards the advancement of research and development in Brunei Darussalam.

The engagement reflects UTB’s ongoing commitment to fostering strategic partnerships with government agencies and key stakeholders in support of the University’s mission to drive innovation, research excellence, and sustainable national development.

30 May 2026 - Universiti Teknologi Brunei organised a Sacrificial Rite Ceremony in conjunction with the celebration of Hari Raya Aidil Adha 1447H / 2026M and the university’s 40th Anniversary celebration. The ceremony was held at the Multi-Purpose Hall of the university, formed part of a series of commemorative activities organised in conjunction with UTB’s 40th Anniversary, reflecting the university’s continued commitment towards fostering unity, compassion, and community engagement.

Present as the Guest of Honour was Datin Paduka Professor Dr Dayang Hajah Zohrah binti Haji Sulaiman, Vice-Chancellor of Universiti Teknologi Brunei. Also in attendance were Principal Officers, university staff, students, and invited guests.

The ceremony commenced with the recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah and Selawat Tafrijiyyah, followed by a mass Takbir Raya. The event also featured a religious talk delivered by Yang Mulia Ustaz Haji Muskrisman Safari bin Haji Mustapa, Religious Development Officer from the Dakwah Development, entitled ‘Ikhtibar Kehidupan Nabi Ibrahim ‘Alaihissalam’, highlighting the values of sacrifice, sincerity, and gratitude with the spirit of Hari Raya Aidil Adha.

The event then proceeded with the distribution of sacrificial meat by the Guest of Honour to the 60 sacrificial participants and recipients. The ceremony concluded with the presentation of a token of appreciation to the invited speaker, followed by the recitation of Doa Selamat.

The ceremony served as a meaningful platform in strengthening ukhuwah and togetherness among the UTB community, while upholding the values of compassion, sacrifice, and gratitude in conjunction with the celebration of Hari Raya Aidil Adha and the university’s 40-year legacy.

25 May 2026 – Universiti Teknologi Brunei (UTB) hosted a technical talk entitled “Leveraging the Campus as a Living Lab (CaLL@SIT): Applied Learning and Research in Real-world Operational Environments” at Lecture Theatre 4 (LT4), UTB. The event was attended by UTB students, academic staff, researchers, and invited industry participants.

The session was delivered by Professor Steven Wong, Director of the Centre of Digital Enablement (CoDE) at the Singapore Institute of Technology (SIT), who also serves as the external moderator for the CNS Programme Area.

Professor Wong shared insights on utilising university campuses as “living laboratories” to support innovation through real-world operational environments. His presentation highlighted how higher education institutions can integrate digital technologies, smart systems, and industry partnerships to create powerful experiential learning opportunities while solving practical, everyday campus challenges.

The talk provided participants with critical perspectives on digital enablement, cybersecurity leadership, and the expanding role of universities in fostering innovation-driven learning environments. It further sparked meaningful discussions on strengthening academia-industry collaboration to advance future-ready education initiatives and digital transformation.

In addition to his role at SIT, Professor Wong is widely recognized as a leader in the cybersecurity sector. He currently holds several prominent professional roles, including President of the Association of Information Security Professionals (AiSP) and Deputy Chairman of the Cybersecurity Coordinating Committee under the Singapore Standards Council.
