The Duke of Edinburgh International Award (DofE) Silver participants from International School Brunei (ISB) completed their five-day, four-night practice and qualifying journeys at the stunning setting of Mulu National Park, Sarawak.
Mulu is a well-managed UNESCO World Heritage Site Park that offers a varied landscape of rainforest trails, rivers, caves, and limestone formations. The location provided the perfect level of challenge for silver participants to build resilience, develop navigation skills, and work as a team in a real-world environment.
During their qualifying adventurous journey, participants camped for four days and three nights at Mulu homestay, where they were required to prepare their meals and demonstrate strong teamwork and decision-making skills in a very self-sufficient environment. Their two-day, one-night practice journey was spent exploring the Miri Piasau Nature Reserve.
At the end of the trip, the participants presented their reflections and findings on their cave exploration. Among the caves they have explored are Wind Cave, Clearwater Cave, Deer Cave & Lang Cave. They have also completed a Canopy Skywalk, Botanical Trail Exploration, and Tree Top Tour.
Widely recognised as the world’s leading youth achievement award, the DofE International Award is a gold standard in youth development, which challenges young people to dream big, celebrate their achievements, and make a difference in the world.

As part of Book Week, pupils in ISB Primary had the memorable opportunity to gain invaluable insights from published authors!
Years 1 and 2 welcomed author Pauline Chan, who read her book, 'Lucy's Fantastic Flying Adventure', to the pupils and took part in lively Q&A sessions.
Meanwhile, pupils in Years 3, 4 and 5 worked with Gabrielle Chin, author of 'Simpang 424', where they learned about storytelling and illustration.
In addition, Year 6 pupils had an engaging session with author and editorial cartoonist Rahim Jahit, the creator of the 'Cuboi' comic.
Ms Rasheda Choudhury, Assistant Head of ISB Primary (Curriculum & CPD) & Phonics Lead, said, "Book Week was a wonderful celebration of reading and storytelling. Children and staff enjoyed dressing up as their favourite book characters, bringing stories to life across the school. We were also fortunate to welcome visiting authors, whose engaging workshops and storytelling sessions gave students a real insight into the work of an author and illustrator."
A warm thank you to the authors for visiting our school and inspiring our pupils!

The IB is recognised around the world not simply because it is academically rigorous, but because it develops something equally important - perspective. It teaches students how to think critically, communicate thoughtfully, question assumptions, collaborate across cultures, and engage meaningfully with the world around them. And these qualities matter now more than ever.”
The event also featured speeches from 4 students among the graduating cohort, including Rohan Rajurs, who has been with ISB since Pre-Kindy; Ashmit Sreejith, an ISB Board of Directors Scholar; as well as Ministry of Education Scholars and ISB Residence Boarders Hannah Sazali and Sofia Yani.
Among the highlights of the ceremony were the presentation of graduation and subject awards, as well as music performances from the graduates.
