On 5 August 2026, AITI hosted the ASEAN Cooperation on Online Safety Workshop at Setia Point, Brunei Darussalam. The workshop brought together regulators from ASEAN Member States and industry representatives, including social media and platform providers, to discuss how regional cooperation can help create a safer online environment.
In his welcoming remarks, Haji Jailani bin Haji Buntar, Chief Executive of AITI, highlighted the opportunities created by digital technologies and social media for communication, innovation and economic growth. He also noted the growing challenges of cyberbullying, online scams, misinformation, harmful content and privacy concerns, as well as the importance of protecting vulnerable users, particularly children and young people.
Participants explored how ASEAN Member States can strengthen online safety through effective legal frameworks, regulatory mechanisms and practical implementation. Discussions also covered the responsibilities of social media providers, including their policies, community standards, content moderation practices, transparency measures and collaboration with key stakeholders.
The discussions supported the ASEAN Digital Masterplan 2026–2030 and ASEAN’s transition from basic connectivity towards connected intelligence.
The workshop’s findings and feedback will help refine the proposed Roadmap on ASEAN Cooperation on Online Safety. AITI will continue to engage relevant stakeholders in supporting the Roadmap’s development and strengthening regional cooperation towards a safer and more trusted digital environment.

On 10 August 2026, AITI was honoured to participate as a panellist in the AI READY ASEAN Brunei Darussalam National Policy Convening.
During Panel Discussion 2, titled "Preventive AI Governance - Ethics, Misinformation & Building Public Trust", AITI was represented by Rawaida Aryssa, Manager of Personal Data Protection, who shared insights on the critical role of proactive governance, ethical frameworks, and public trust in shaping a safe and responsible digital ecosystem in Brunei Darussalam.
As artificial intelligence continues to evolve, establishing robust guidelines is essential to tackle emerging challenges such as misinformation while promoting the responsible and ethical deployment of AI technologies. These efforts are key to ensuring that innovation benefits society and serves the community safely and effectively.
AITI extends its appreciation to the organisers and fellow panellists for the engaging and insightful discussions on advancing responsible AI adoption across the region.

On 10 August 2026, AITI recently conducted a series of awareness sessions on AI Governance & Ethics and Personal Data Protection for Gleneagles JPMC.
The sessions focused on fostering the responsible use of AI within the workplace, reminding users of the importance of data protection compliance, specifically avoiding the sharing of personal data when utilising AI tools. Participants explored essential best practices to navigate emerging technologies securely and responsibly.

On 7 August 2026, AITI welcomed Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Paduka Mohd Riza bin Dato Paduka Haji Mohd Yunos, Minister of Transport and Infocommunications and Chairman of AITI, for an introductory visit to AITI, Anggerek Desa.
Haji Jailani bin Haji Buntar, Chief Executive of AITI, presented an overview of AITI’s ongoing initiatives, operational performance and strategic priorities. These include strengthening regulatory frameworks and digital trust, enhancing online safety and personal data protection, developing a future-ready digital workforce, accelerating digital innovation, supporting the growth of the local ICT and digital content industries, and advancing Brunei Darussalam’s participation in regional digital cooperation.
The visit also provided an opportunity for AITI’s Management to have a dialogue session with Yang Berhormat Dato and the delegation from Ministry of Transport and Infocommunications on AITI’s strategic direction, operational performance and long-term priorities in regulating and developing Brunei Darussalam’s infocommunications and digital sectors.
Also in attendance were Yang Mulia Haji Mohammad Nazri bin Haji Mohammad Yusof, Permanent Secretary; Yang Mulia Haji Hairul Mohd Daud bin Haji Abdul Karim, Acting Permanent Secretary (Infocommunications); and Yang Mulia Haji Salihin bin Haji Aspar, Deputy Permanent Secretary (Transport) at the Ministry of Transport and Infocommunications, together with senior government officials, AITI’s Senior Leadership Team and Management.

Among the highlights included PENJANA, a joint-funding scheme that supports local Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in adopting digital solutions. Visitors learned about AITI’s future-ready digital talent initiatives, including Coding.bn, the TechInspire Apprenticeship Programme, and the TechXPLORE Digital Apprenticeship Programme, which equip youth jobseekers and ICT graduates with programming, technical, and industry-relevant skills.
The exhibition also showcased KontenKitani.bn and Pitch and Produce, initiatives aimed at nurturing and strengthening Brunei’s local broadcasting and digital content industry. In promoting a safer and more trusted digital environment, AITI highlighted Waspada.bn, the nation’s official fact-checking platform dedicated to combating misinformation and online scams.
Also featured were the Personal Data Protection (PDP) Framework, which provides guidance to organisations in meeting their obligations under the Personal Data Protection Order, and AITI’s AI Governance and Ethics Framework, which promotes the responsible, ethical, and trustworthy development and deployment of artificial intelligence in Brunei Darussalam.
